A challenging new off road event in the northern Lake District. The event consists of a 5.5km trail run, followed by a 15km MTB incorporating the new Altura bike trails, finishing with a final 5.5km trail run.
The event is held entirely within the boundaries of Whinlatter Forest Park, near Keswick & is completely off road. With stunning mountain scenery & an extensive network of forest tracks & purpose built bike trails, this is a spectacular location for trail running & mountain biking.
Terrain: Both runs are on well surfaced singletrack & forest roads. The MTB course involves technical singletrack climbing & descending.
Course: The event starts and finishes adjacent to Cyclewise. The first run will be one 5.5km circuit climbing up to over 500m. There are spectacular views of Bassenthwaite Lake & the Skiddaw mountain range on the initial section.
A singletrack traverse across Seat How opens up more stunning vistas of the Coledale Fells & Derwen****er before descending back towards the visitor centre.
The MTB route is one 15km circuit incorporating the full North Loop of the Altura trails with additional sections of forest tracks.
This is graded as a Red route involving sections of singletrack climbing & descending. Starting with the first two sweeping sections of the Blue graded trails, the route climbs steadily up through the forest to over 500m on a mixture of technical singletrack & wide forest tracks.
A testing traverse across Seat How follows a similar fashion to the run. This leads to an exhilarating descent involving switchbacks, berms, drop offs & ledges, followed by a testing steep climb on wide forest trails before finishing with a rapid singletrack descent back to the transition. The North cycle trail will be closed to other cyclists for the duration of the event.
