Frontier X2 HRM - and use with ebike

Anyone used one? I've ordered one anyway. Been having a few ticker related issues lately - TIA last year and frequent ectopic heart beats. Which in isolation aren't generally anything to worry about, but been having a few prolonged instances lately, so the cardiologist is going to have another poke around.

The Frontier is also an ECG machine, so will hopefully generate some useful data and will alert me to various things. Also ordered a Garmin Epix 2 (not pro) on sale at John Lewis for £324, as the Frontier will work with that (and not my Samsungs). Been fancying a Garmin to try for a while anyway.

In addition to this, I use the Blevo app for my Specialized Ebikes. It has various functions over and above the Spesh app - one being Smart Power and Smart HR - you set where you want your HR to sit and it will adjust the level of assist acordingly to keep you where you want to be. Other apps may do this also, I dunno, but this is the one I use

I had a fourth frontier for a while when I had similar problems. The usability is good but it's expensive for what it is. Also, the battery died after only about a year. Got a warranty replacement but it's died again after the warranty ran out.

A polar h60 + android app will also give you an ECG. Less usable, but a lot cheaper. They do eat button cell batteries though

I got quite a hefty discount. Will try the Polar if this turns out to be guff

I have a frontier x2, not really very useful unless you can interpret an ecg by eye for the problems you have IMO, I would have rather put the money towards an apple watch or something similar that can actually do the detective work for me.

Also micro usb in 2024 is a joke, and the rubber port cover fell off after the third charge. Then the fact that you have to turn it on and then press to start recording, and it isn't clear if it has started, a few rides I had it didn't record. I wouldn't recommend it.

The wellue ER1 ecg" might be a better option, their app does analysis of the ecg trace, but I haven't tried it.

I'm hoping the information will be interpreted by a cardiologist, not by me - however, when I've been hooked up to an ECG a few years ago, the prolonged case of ectopics I was having was clear to see on screen, even to my untrained eye.

Other than that, warnings that my heart isn't doing what it should do will be welcomed

I'll never be into the Apple ecosystem, but Samsung watches have an ECG function (mine doesn't work, as my phone is a grey import and they have to originate in the same country). However, it's a snapshot, not constant monitoring.

Micro USB meh, but not a deal breaker. I'll probably be using it with a phone or watch, so hopefully should know if it's recording. That said, all feedback welcome and if it's junk, it's £300 wasted in the pursuit of keeping tabs on myself, I'll chalk it up to a poor purchase and look for something else

It doesn't transmit the ecg in real time, just a heartbeat like a normal HRM, you have to record the ecg and download it afterwards.

I'm not sure if the blurb is misleading, or you aren't using yours correctly, but they are saying it does everything that you say it doesn't.

Not looking for an argument, or trying to justify a purchase, just wondering what this thing actually does

The frontier will transmit ECG data to your phone in real time, but I'm not sure you can connect it to your Garmin when it's doing that.

It will also store the ECG trace on the frontier device which you can then download to your phone app afterwards (or see on the web app too). It will transmit HRM data to the Garmin when you're doing this.

I did find it very useful for setting my mind at rest. Ectopics are easy to spot (even for me, I'm not a cardiologist)

The actual cardiologist I was seeing thought the trace was useable when I queried the ECG trace with him  when I was feeling some possibly weird arrhythmia and wondering if it was something to be worried about (it wasn't)

It does say it can work simultaneously with three devices, but to what level of information sent, I don't know
