OK If I knew I wouldn't be asking , so sorry for what may seem a simple question:
I had to replace my rear mech ( swapped out broken lx for slx shadow).
Used the Shimano notes to set it up. All OK initially, but shifting became a little imprecise after a few miles. Also had problems with front mech getting from middle to granny when on any cog bigger than about middle on the back. Began fettling front mech, but seemed to get conflicting ideas as to start point,( cable? which ring to be on at the back first ? etc.) from stuff on the web.
However last week noticed that I'd not tightened rear mech to hanger properly. Tightened up and rear shifts very crislply now, but front mech is obviously out.
Presumably front may not have been at issue at all before I began adjusting stuff ! But am finding it hard to find a definitive , idiot's guide to setting up the front.
Suggestins please ? I just haven't ever needed to attend to a front mech before !
Ta Dave.

This is a very technical adjustment, best to go to a bike shop it wont take long to adjust unless there's something wrong. This might help for now, Make sure the front mech plates are straight with the chain-rings and there should be 2-3 mm gap between the front plate and top chain-ring, if you cant get on granny ring you must loosen the low adjuster screw out.
