Currently taking 2 shifts to move chain up from granny ring to middle ring. What do I need to adjust? Best to leave it till after Hit the North?

will it shift into big ring or is that as far as it'll go? sounds like high/low screws need adjusting.

either that or it needs a good clean, oil, and reset tension in the cable

Thanks, you're spot on, new cables a couple of weeks ago.

How do I adjust the cable tension?

Sounds like cable tension. Put the shifter in granny cog and bottom ( largest) sproket at the rear. Turn the cable adjuster on the shifter clockwise all the way in. Make sure the Lo adjuster bolt has the cage of the mech a couple of mm away from the chain (no more than say 2-3mm). Lossen the cable bolt and pull the cable as tight as you can with pliers and nip the bolt up again.

That should sort it. You can then pull a bit more with the shifter adjuster if required.

what stoney said. remember turning the shifter barrel adjuster anti clockwise will tighten the cable.
