As title really.
Current 3x9 front mech has rattled itself to death, but seeing as I'm running 2x9-plus-bash, I'm looking at 2x10 front mechs. Will this work with my 2x9 setup? Or should I stick with a 3x9 front mech?

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but there are (at least) 2 differences between 3x and 2x systems; the chainline they are designed for and the angle the cage moves at. I don't think it's possible to mix as the gear positions of the derailleur are too different.
Just go for the appropriate derailleur for 3x9 and limit the top so as not to get into the big ring.
