Got a hankering for an On-One Ti Pompblingamine (hopefully the name gets changed) when they come out, but in the mean time, fancy the idea of a cheap as chips fixed gear Pompino or Pompetamine with some CX tyres for tooling around on flatish evening rides. Let's see your photos to brighten up a dreich Friday morning...

you only waited an hour. 😉

How's about this one? Ti pompino. Although I'm sure the current owner will be a long shortly with an updated shot.

Slow morning in the office here, and threads do vanish from the front page pretty quickly. Some nice tidy builds there. I do like the old white and blue frames.

Al - would be interested to see how you build it.

ah yes, it is a dmr one.

i bought a slot dropout instead, specifically for that reason.
other than wider stays, i dont think its any different?

I didn't realise they had changed the stays that much, what size tyre can you get in there? Nice red btw...

i dont know about the stays, i was assuming tbh.
maybe the headangle is slacker on the Inbred too (as its a MTB)

those are 28Cs i think

i believe someone on STW has put 32Cs in an original 456 frame, but there is plenty of clearance in mine at the moment 🙂

no it is a 26"

i ummed and Ahed quite a lot, but stumped for the 26"

for riding on road, i would want road wheels, but a 29er would have a gopping amount of space in between the stays and wishbone.

if/when it does touring (its only a month old), i would want to put stronger 26" wheels on it with fatter tyres.
i can "borrow" them, and the gears off my XC bike for trips 🙂

mmmmm, versatile.

Mine will have discs F+R. Got 3 bikes to build this week...re-build my Casseroll (now with discs), Pompino and VN Yukon.

I've been thinking about replacing my current fixed commuter frame and fork, and switching over to a disc front... anyone know if it's possible to get a fork that has a calliper drilling and a disc mount ???

The ti ones look great but I think they are missing a trick with them, they should do them with clearance for full 29er tyres like the salsa fargo, I'd buy one...

Hi guys. Whats the score with these? At £400 they seem excellent value.

I quit biking about 2yrs ago but have recently had a pretty horrible knee injury which is going to keep me out of action for at least 6mths. My thinking is at the end of 6mths i would love to return to cycling in one form or another. I think the MTB will still be a step too far for a while but i could build things up on one of these on roads and tracks.

Is this a viable alternative to a road bike if you just want to get around and put a bit of mileage in? Say getting to work and back
Is the singlespeed thing too much bearing in mind i will have a fragile knee for a while? I dont want to find i cant get up the few hills i have to get to work etc and have to walk when a geared bike would make it easier.
Once things get better, are they capable of some basic CX use?

Thanks for any help

I'd swap my Roadrat for an XL Pompetamine in light blue with matching forks

They only made one. There is a new prototype though, so we may be lucky, and I agree with your idea.

Getting a hankering for a singlespeed pompetamine for commuting duties. It's hilly around here so singlespeed with discs rather than fixed seems to make the most sense. Recently moved to singlespeed on the MTB (Scandal) and this seems like an obvious next move. Leaves me to put the Jake the Snake into permanent cyclocross mode or winter road bike for club runs when singlespeed will not cut it for speed.

@TheLittlestHobo

I only have the Pompino and do all my riding on it - road, cross, trails - and find it's fine for what I want to do. I regularly put in 40-50 miles on it and have done over 70.

[img] [/img]

I think I need a better picture...

Good pics all. Now hankering after a blue or white Pompino with drop bars, CX tyres, front brake and a fixed gear to give me something fast, cheap and intersting to ride until I get enough funds together for a proper CX bike. Plenty of inspiration here.

I'm about to order one, but struggling with the choice of colours (yeah, yeah...). Looking at these lovelies, I'm leaning towards the white, but the glow in the dark option intrigues me. I haven't seen any decent pics of them during the day though - are they off-white or vile lurid green?

Much prefer the old decals too. Maybe a respray is in order? That metallic red ones looks stunning.

Ade, likewise, I prefer the look of a lot of these white ones, and the blue is quite tidy too. Still curious about the glow in the dark though, as I've yet to see any decent photos of what it looks like in the day.

Only as a testing bed & while I respray the disc mounts on my Casserroll. It's also borrowed the wheels off my road bike until it gets its fancy new ones.
