[#11933121]

Has anyone had experience of both the Fox Transfer and Crank Brother Highline 7 dropper posts and levers? I'm interested in both and yes, while a Reverb AXS would be nice, battery charging and the high cost are not right now.

Does anyone also have any view on what current carbon (or alloy) bars have some good compliance? I've been finding my hands get a slightly numb sensation after an hours ride - which I think is the sweep/setup of my bars, and/or the stiffness of them (Cotic bars). The grips seem fine as had them on other bikes without issue (Ergon GA2). Happy if I can solve the problem without swapping bars, but equally happy to try new ones.

Last question - has anyone tried the Ergon SM Pro saddle? Anything you didn't like about it and what did you change to? Of course happy to try it, but its an £80 experiment!

Cheers in advance

Has the CB post got any moving parts? If so, avoid.

FWIW, I had a Transfer and it was lovely.

Other than the clamp and obviously the shaft, I don't think so -->

Any moving parts you were thinking of?

If you're thinking of spending Transfer money, then go buy a Bikeyoke Revive or Divine, miles better. I've owned both, now have two Revives.

OneUp sell their carbon bars on compliance, I think there have been some group tests and semi-scientific tests that have backed their claims up.

I bought the Ergon SM Enduro, and loved it, bought two more for other bikes, plus an SR Road. Saddles are a very personal thing though, every arse is unique and what suits me may not suit you.

I have a Transfer on my bike, and once Silverfish fixed it (which took two warranty returns) it's been great. It's not a 2021- onwards model and I believe Fox have improved the internals, not just the seat clamp. My mate's got a Highline and has had no major issues in over two years.

Can't help you on the bars. I have the same issue, but it seems to go away after 45 minutes of riding. Go on longer rides?

I have the SM Pro. It's a revelation. I took the time to measure my sit bones so I got the correct size (I have very narrow sit bones despite having a fat arse) and it's great.

Bar wise I swapped from alloy to a Brand X carbon bar with 31.8mm clamp. 780mm wide.

Definitely a bit more flexy than the alloy ones - seem comfy - as bars go anyway. Thin / soft deathgrips on them.

I’d be tempted to look at Bikeyoke. Everything I’ve read about the Transfer suggests it’s great when working but it’s not user serviceable and expensive to send off to be serviced.

I've had a Highline for a couple of years and it's been completely trouble free, returns not the quickest but other than that I can't fault it

@_leon_ I'm testing the Highline 7 for this website, and it's been faultless for the past 6 months/600 miles. The Highline range is bombproof in my experience - I've had at least 2 previously and not experienced issues from any of them.

I'm also currently using the Ergon SM Pro saddle, and it works for me. Can't see myself moving away from it until it falls to pieces.

I'd agree with this.

Also, I have a highline from before they had numbers.

It's high quality and works well but returns very slowly. Dunno if that's been addressed.

Out of interest what makes these worth 3x the price of a Brand X xl dropper?

It's really nicely engineered, has a low stack height and is silky smooth to use.

But I just bought oneups (and a heavily discounted highline) for my current bikes.

I bought a Highline, slow and steady return, as above. Also a fair bit of lateral play after a year. Nice lever, though.

Remember you can get the Transfer as a Mazrocchi transfer too (although not in all the sizes I think?).

I at one point had one of each and there was literally no difference other than the laser etched logo. Same box, same instructions, same packaging etc.

Marzocchi was about £75 cheaper. Still got it - works great.

Thanks all. To conclude, I got a OneUp bar, CB Highline 7 dropper and an Ergon SM Pro saddle - happy with all of them!
