Any recommendations for padded mitts? Now that I am ancient my palms seem to have lost their natural padding and most of the roadie type mitts I have tried are very minimalist.
Gripgrab gloves with ‘Dr Gel’ have decent ulnar nerve padding at the heel of the hand.
Specialized BG ones
Careful, I found most of the pads are in entirely the wrong places for MTBing, they're designed for roadies riding on the hoods. On a long ride with flat bars I ended up taking them off as the pads actually dug in.
I use silicone foam (SuperCaz Siliconez, or ESI) grips which are far more comfy than rubber grips or plastic lock-ons and very minimalist mits now for off-road (van rysell from Decathlon).
This last year or so I've ended up with gloves with much less padding than I used to use, and my hands are much more comfortable without it, on and off road.
I'm in the camp of finding padding puts more pressure into the ulnar nerve area. I also find the more material in the palm the more rippling it does as you grip causing blisters. A few years back when I stopped commuting and started mtbing more again I spent ages trying bars and grips trying to get rid of the pain. Ergon grips did it for me. Initially gs1 but since found the little chicken wings of the ga3 provide enough support/relief
You might be able to find em cheap, only small left on the Specialized site
I've had a pair of these for years
These work for me (painful hands - Dupuytren's contracture)

I also have Specialized BG, they have lots of padding and massively help me with reducing wrist pain(from an old injury)
I can also rec the hummvees linked above. More padding than most mitts (still not as much as we used to get in the good old days). Mine are also lasting well.
