[Closed] Fox fork in pieces - what to do?

When servicing my 2013 Fox Float 29 Evolution forks:

(these forks: https://www.ridefox.com/fox_tech_center/owners_manuals/013/Content/Forks/32/2013FLOAT29_32.html) a very badly worn circlip popped out from the CTD adjust top assembly (separate forum post here: https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/can-anyone-identify-what-this-suspension-fork-washer-is-for/).

To get the clip back in I removed the damping adjustment rod, unfortunately it dropped onto the floor as I was removing it and bits went everywhere 😭. I'm now left with this:

And I have no clue how it all goes back together. I've checked the fox site here: https://www.ridefox.com/fox17/help.php?m=bike&id=81 but none of the diagrams seem to match the parts I have.

Any advice?

I tried ringing my local bike shop but they just send the forks off to TFTuned. I'm happy to do that if it's the only option, however, I'd prefer to fix the problem myself if possible.

TF dont service evo dampers, neither do Fox

Thanks @bigyan! There's an image on page 5 which shows exactly the order which is great.

Unfortunately It looks like I'm missing one of the O-rings, plus I need to replace the circlip.

I spoke to TF and they confirmed what you said. They also said that the 2013 Evo forks are not a great design and almost impossible to reassemble once taken apart.

They recommended replacing the damper with a new GRIP one. Including oil works out at £200. Tempted to bite the bullet and save myself a load more pain sourcing parts and trying to get it all back together.

For what it's worth I've just had to replace the damper on a 2016 fox fork (slight snapage issue when doing up the foot nut and crush washer after a service (note to self - use the torque wrench)) and I'm now quite glad it broke! The new damper is noticeably better than the original.

I wonder if those spare forks I have will be a help to you?

I could take the damper out and see if the spares you need are in there... only probably is, being a "not great" design, the ones I have don't work properly - damping is fine, but the CTD knob has no effect.
Replacing the damper with the GRIP one is obviously the best option, if you have the cash going.
You might be able to find a complete replacement on Ebay. I found a seller the other day who had nothing but forks - I'll try to find a link.

What exact model of forks are these?

If they are 36s then I may be able to offer up the "spare" grip (not grip 2) damper I have for mine for less than the cost of a new one.

@DezB that's kind of you to offer thanks, but I've bitten the bullet and bought a new damper. This one (I rang Silverfish to confirm that it definitely fits): https://www.silverfish-uk.com/products/82018099KiT_FOX-Fork-32-Grip-Cartridge-Assembly-2019-29-80-120.

Plus £15 for oil from TF tuned
Plus £42 for the Park Tool sockets

Total: £242 😭

Oh well - hopefully the fork will last a few more years!

I think we too have the same forks - 2015 Float 32 Evolution CTD....

They are not right, blowing through travel easily on slow speed (e.g. hit the  brakes) yet spiking / not reacting on faster stuff. They also warm up(!) on a long descent.

The cost of new internals is high - but less than new forks...

What is the cheapest way to new internals?

New probably a GRIP damper, second hand a used FIT damper somebody has upgraded to GRIP, or a used GRIP damper somebody has upgraded to GRIP 2

Fitting is a lower service, then remove dials from damper and remove the damper cartridge from the fork with a large socket. If you fit a GRIP damper make sure you use the correct lower bath oil.

I would phone Silverfish (Fox UK) with the fork ID code, or serial number, or exact model/year if you are not sure exactly what you need to fit your fork.

Silverfish are £185 for a non remote GRIP cartridge.

Can you find a damaged fork on pinkbike or ebay or similar? With older stuff as long as your chassis is good you can often find a compatible fork with damage or stanchion wear or similar cheaply

You definately need to verify cross compatability as a pre 2015 36 won't take a grip damper. Top cap thread changes or something.
