hi guys after a bit of help or advice, i run a fox float rlc with 140 mm travel, just lately i have felt a bit sluggish down hill, i only run about 50 psi in the the front and about 105 psi in the rp23 rear, i only weigh under 11 stone, but i wanna still utilise max travel! Will putting in a bit more pressure give the handling a more stable feeling on descents? Or do the pressures sound about right for the weight?

How is the rebound set ? Too fast will make it feel unstable. Are you getting all the travel now ?

hey mr frosty!

rebound is about 4 clicks in from the fastest setting (out of 9 i think?), low speed compression about 3 clicks in from the fastest

and yeah i get more or less most travel on both front and rear at the moment?

sag has been set for about 35%?

Slow rebound down, put rebound to full slow and then back it off 3-4 clicks on the fork. What rear shock and bike you got ?

ahh so going more towards the slower end of the rebound may feel better? i always thought the slower the rebound setting the more sluggish the forks felt?

rear shock is rp23 on orange five

cheers ๐Ÿ™‚

Will feel more stable and track better. Try it offroad i.e not car park test. Try the same with the rear shock to. I'm a little lighter than you but on the same bike, fork and shock. And running pretty much same air pressures.

cheers mrfrosty!

Hi, as frosty said 3/4 clicks off full slow on rebound. Depends how you define sluggish from the front end.
Do you mean slow turning?
Your also saying you want more stability. More pressure in the fork will hold the fork higher in it's travel slackening the head angle and making the front end more stable. However if they are too hard they won't absorb all the bumps making them feel unstable (maybe) it'll also be really uncomfortable.

Best thing to do is set the sag on the front, stand on the pedals with hands on bar and set at 1/3 of total travel.
For the rear again set 1/3 of travel, set while seated hands on bars with feet up. Rebound setting also 3 to 4 click off full slow to start with and go from there.

Hope this helps ๐Ÿ™‚

More air pressure would hold the front end up but you would nt be getting full use of the travel, why would you want a 140mm fork an use 100mm of it withit feeling harsh. Sounds like you've got close to the correct air pressure/sag. Too fast rebound not good for tracking I'd say

Unless the fork is using the full travel too easily and bottoming out on a regular basis.
Your right about the rebound, it was more a comment about the fact that if fork was sagging too much and steepening the head angle it could also be a cause of instability.
yes and the pressures do seem about right, knowing how you ride Frosty ๐Ÿ˜‰
