Anyone got any experience of the Fox DPS shock?

I’ve a Giant Trance 29, and weighing in at (rather portly at the moment) 98kg kitted up, I’m finding I need over 300psi in the shock to hit 25% sag. Seems a bit excessive, especially when Fox are suggesting Lbs=psi for an initial setting...

Any thoughts?

Cheers in advance,

Rich

I had one on my Jeffsy. It wasn't very good at compromise between small bump sensitivity and mid or end stroke support. At the time I was a bit of a biffer like you are 🙂 and I could never get it set up how I wanted it. Changed shock to a coil shock in the end and sold it on to someone who weighed the same as my left leg.

Ha ha. Best get dieting... 🙂 Out of interest, what sort of pressures were you running?

I think the pressure required is more to do with the suspension design / force of leverage rather than the type of shock. I may be wrong. I had a DPS on my previous bike which required only 100psi. DPS on my new bike requires 220 psi. Giant should have a table of recommended pressure settings for rider weights.

You can fit a larger volume spacer if you're blowing through the travel too easily.

Had one stock on my 650b Trance. I'm only about 70kg so a fair bit lighter. Was running about 165psi from memory. No comlaints but then I didn't have a lot to compare it to. I swapped it out for a DVO topaz which I managed to get for £40 more than the cost of servicing the DPS.

It was a while ago but it wasn't 300. 240 or so rings a bell.

Cheers - there feels like a bit of a ‘step’ or bit of resistance towards the sag point, the loosens up after that. It’s okay for a cycle or two, but comes back after. Sounds like it might be borked...

Got one on my Segment. I had issues until I had a go with a Shockwiz. The stroke is very short so difficult to set up the sag (38mm stroke). I was running 150psi but I upped that to 225 and its way better. I have max tokens in there. I dont really mind the lack of small bump sensitivity as I've only got 110mm travel to play with.
