I've got a set of 36 Vans on my patriot and following the manufacturers/Mojo guidance I changed up to the Firm spring rather than the medium as I wiegh 95-ish KGs. Two months later and with the pre-load wound completely off, i'm not getting full travel and I'm only just getting 1/4 sag. According to the fox set up guide I should be running the next spring up for my weight (extra-firm spring) - is it all a big pile if doggydoo?

Not quite the same but I always run less air than I officially should in both Fox and Rock Shox air forks. Suppose it's more of a guide, so if you're not getting the correct performance from a spring, just move to the next one up or down. Sounds like you need to go back to what you had before.

I found this with my Van 36. I've always needed to run heavier springs/more air whatever i ride. When I got mine, I swapped to the medium spring before I even rode the bike. About a month later, I put the medium in and I've been happy with that for the last 3 years.

Yeah - I didn't even try the medium after reading the Fox guide (max rider wieght 14 stone)put in the firm without thinking even though my weight is right at the top end for the firm (green) spring. Any fat lads (15 stone +) out there ridden a medium (blue) spring?

I found the rockshox spring guides are well out as well - I weigh 16 stone and should be on an x-firm but found I never got anywhere near full travel.

I'm about 200 lbs. Probably 15 st when I'm kitted up and I run the medium spring now. Maybe hit full travel once or twice on a big ride.

It probably varies depending on what year they are. I'm 95kg aswell but i found the opposite from yourself, i'm running the x-firm spring. Mine are 07(i think?)36R's and i was forever bottoming them out and found they were diving real bad when i was braking on steeper stuff, even with the x-firm spring in. Ended up sending them to mojo for a service and revalve, they stuck the same valves as are in the newer models into them, problem solved. Still running the x-firm spring tho as i like my suspension to be on the firmer side.

why not run a spring that provides the action you desire ?

fwiw, i'm 90kg fully kitted and run the soft spring supplied (not the extra soft option).

a bit more sag but a bit faster rebound - just how i like em.

i do exactly the same with my TALAS... less air preload and faster rebound preventing pack down.

good luck.
