I want to shorten my brake hoses on 2 sets of formula brakes. Just the olive and insert required. The Formula kits are £12 each 😯 I dont want to pay £44 to shorten my hoses. Can I reuse the inserts on the Formulas and just buy the Shimano olives? I notice the Shimano inserts dont ahve an oring on them, so probably shouldnt use them. Shimano £3 each 🙂

The Formula kit probably comes with bits you don't need- you can buy the barb and olive seperately, the olive is £1.75 and the insert £2.79 from UK Bike Store (CRC sell them too) Actually just looking at it, it looks like the kit costs more than its component parts!

The barb insert is reusable- just cut the hose about 20mm from the end then (incredibly carefully) remove the o-ring, then set the hose stub on fire, melt it off. It's probably incredibly toxic mind and you might maim yourself. You could probably cut it off with a bit of care but fire is cool.
