I bought a set of used Lyriks for an upcoming build for my sons Escarpe, I got them for a decent price and they turned up slightly worse than I was expecting.
The steerer has some circumferential wear from a loose headset I guess, which shows signs of corrosion and the end of the steerer where the star nut sits is pretty flakey too.
The LSC knob turns but doesn't click, I've had both compression dials off and cleaned them up but I think something inside isn't quite right. Is it possible the LSC adjuster is broken inside the damper or is it likely it's just the detents aren't clicking? Hard to tell if it's actually doing anything.
I'm tempted to fit a new CSU anyway, is there a quick fix for the adjuster or shall I bite the bullet and send it to a specialist, possibly get them to put some lighter oil on there too suit a 13 year old rider.
Id return them with that many problems
I agree. Given they sound quite neglected, it might not be such a decent price once a specialist has taken them apart and find what state the internals are in...
Seconded, that goes back.
New CSU (replacing just the steerer would be cheaper) + damper fix* isn’t cheap unless you got the fork for pennies knowing it needed money spent.
*unless you can do it yourself
Other thing to keep in mind is that the 2.1 damper is not well served at all with regard to spare parts. SRAM want you to buy a whole damper. Also, if the bushing are worn, they can't be replaced officially, SRAM want you to buy new lowers.
I have 3 lyriks with rc2 2.1 charger, they all vary in stiffness of the dials but they all click, I'd say something inside is faulty, you should tell the difference from fully open and closed just from the pushing down on them test.
I did discuss the issues with the seller and TBF the listing did mention the wear on the steerer, but I didn't realise it was corroded too, it's not horrendous but you can feel it with your nail.
He offered for me to return them or a partial refund which I took because they were cheap to start with and all the forks I've seen on eBay had scuffed uppers or were overpriced, so all in they were £230. CSU I can do myself and that's only £150-200.
I'll try the compression adjuster again and then go from there.
Detents for adjuster knobs are usually just a small ball bearing and a spring, it might be that the ball and spring have been lost which is why it no longer clicks

That's what I was hoping for.
If you have access to a press then a new steerer tube is about £100.
J-tec can replace it and I think they offer a discount if you have for fork serviced at the same time
I think the detent bearings are deep inside the damper so the entire thing needs dismantling to get to them, beyond what normally gets done in a service. It's strange that they are missing. It's not part of the damper that normally gets touched.
I'd say if they're that bad as they are you might be in for a shock when you drop the lowers.....
I'd probably return and get a set of £200 Revelations.
I'd also suggest that at 13 you won't need the Charger 2.1 and the Motion Control will be more than sufficient with a lighter oil.
Thanks for all the suggestions, lots of options to look into. I did drop the lowers and they had oil in them... which was really due a change but at least they had oil, put new foam rings and oil in and they actually feel ok trying them on the floor.
I think if the adjuster makes a difference and it's just the clicks "missing" I'll be happy, and the steerer isn't that bad, probably about .003" deep I would guess.
I'll definitely look into that steerer replacement.
