I'm putting together a new bike (Cotic Solaris) and need some help choosing a fork as I have bugger all knowledge on the subject. Riding is mainly XC leisure. Budget up to around £400.

A decent lockout is a must as I have to use a fair bit of road to string local tracks together. Probably 100mm travel.

I love my rockshox Reba's if that's any help. They're nice an easy to service as well. Admittedly, I've never ridden any fox fork...

I think at that budget a RS Reba represents one of the best options. I have a set on my on one inbred 29er and cannot fault them. I would have preferred Fox (as that is what I had previously run on my 26" bikes) but could not afford them now.

The x fusion forks get good reviews topi think and would be in budget.

Oh and check out the German online bike shops forgo good prices (bike24, bike discount etc).

Ive owned a few sets of Reba's in the past and they've all been great, however every set I owned I found had a fragile lockout and suffered from the lock out being a bit rubbish - after forgeting to turn it off a few times id have to strip the fork and give it a good service to get the best from them. It got to the point where on my last set I removed the remote lock out so I wouldnt turn it on.
Anyway after getting a 29er i recently I got some White Bros loops - I wanted something abit different and had owned a set of white brothers in the laye 90s I thought id give them a go again.
They have been perfect. The lockout works on a magnectic damping system and has been great, the first 50miles were quite clunky but having read reviews I was expecting that. 6months on I have absolutely no complaints. White brothers are owned by MRP and have recently dropped the white brothers branding for their own. The bonus being you can pick up a set of loops for less than £400 now - mine were £450 six months ago.
