I'm about to swap out the tatty decals for some shiney new Slik graphics.
Whats the best way to remove the old ones? Hot hairdryer? Some cleaner / degreaser?
Never done it myself but hairdryer sounds a good shout to me then some disc brake cleaner or something similar. Isopropyl alcohol basically.
Hairdryer then meths (easier to get than isopropyl).
As a professional vinyl fitter, my approved method is to pick a corner and peel them off. If the sticker appears brittle, soften it with some heat as you peel. Use some glue remover (sticky stuff remover is good and smells nice) to get rid of the glue residue then clean with isopropanol before applying new graphics.
If the new stickers are direct replacements for the old ones I found putting some masking tape roughly where the old ones were helps a lot in positioning the new ones correctly 🙂
I warm them up with a hairdryer and clean off any adhesive residue with Ronsonol lighter fluid.
+1 for what Skaifan said
Replaced mine last year. Just peel them off gently then remove any sticky residue.
Hairdryer and a bottle of IPA
I’d go along with skaifan. With the proviso that the bike is at room temperature, you should be able to remove the original decal in a few determined minutes with nothing more than your fingernail. A quick wipe with isopropyl before fitting a new decal is always a good plan.
