[Closed] Fork Bush or Play in Brake Pads?

I've got a 4 month old Rockshox Revelation and Avid Elixir R brakes with superstar pads.

With the front brake apllied I feel a knock when rocking the fork, for last few days I've been thinking it is the bushes in the fork however I'm now wondering if the knock is actually caused by the play / movement in the brake pads. The front wheel is able to rock back and forward ever so slightly when the front brake is on.

There is no knock with the front wheel at 90 degrees to the bike.

Has anyone else experienced this?

yes -= it could be either - you should be able to see it the wheel is rotating slightly (pads) or feel for movement in the bushes by putting you finger on the top of the slider touching both stanchion and slider

I get play in the rotor, where the alloy spider is rivet'd to the steel bit!

I had a similar problem - turned out to be the pads (2012 XT) moving on the pin. Had to get someone else to hold the brakes on whilst rocking it backwards and forwards whilst holding various bits to realise but it's pretty clear that's where the movement is. Have you tried the back? That's one way of checking if the pads move.

I've got Hope Pro 2s. Haven't tried the back for movement but I think they are genuine Avid pads - I'll swap the pads tomorrow to see if that makes a difference.

I've tried my finger between lower and stanchion by the brace and can feel the knock but it could be travelling up from the brake. I'll also try another pair of hands to grip the wheel whilst I rock the fork.

Still waiting for another pair of hands to pop round but... With the front wheel pushed against a curb or a fence there is no knock so I am now pretty confident that the knock is caused by the pads moving.

If it's the pads then the feel of the movement changes as you tighten the brakes.
