Just wondering about this, on a recent trip to Wales we stayed near Welshpool and I was asking the owner of the places about biking locally on bridleways etc, and he just said 'ride wherever you like'. People there generally seemed pretty chilled out about such things, but is the law the same as in England?

Seeming "pretty chilled" is not going to be seen as good advice on rights of way, though it would be brilliant if it was.

I dunno, I imagine that in the area we were in (which seemed pretty quiet) there is not so much pressure on ROW and conflict with walkers etc so it's not so much of an issue - I guess it is probably different in popular areas like Snowdon.

Aye, most of mid wales they don't care so much, the ROW don't get ripped to shreds so much. More likely to encounter a grumpy landowner who dosn't like the look of you english than anyone bothered about the legalities of access.
