Now it could have been a loose chain ring bolt but I always retighten/check however this morning mid-commute the front ring folded in two and snapped off the spider ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Yes alloy ring. The french ring brand. Well I was starting to spin out anyway so was due for a step up in ring size ๐Ÿ™‚

Chain line is spot on- its a singlespeed specific hub etc.

Actually its failed completely thinking about it as I had to tease the chain around and do quite abit of rebending to get it away from the frame!!

the ring will want to bend even if the chainline is spot as when power si applied chain is compressing the ring radially, it will be weaker laterally so will flex laterally rather than radially

what cranks you using?

Happened to me last night resulting in a 3 mile walk home. 4 ride old Sturmey Archer cranks folded and left a nice gouge in my steel frame just as I pulled out onto a roundabout.

I'd like to think it was my awesome power, but actually the cranks seem to be made of cheese.

Happened to me once - one of the chainring bolts had come out hence it couldnt support the power and bent
