Get a fricking life!
So some Inbread cinderford idiots are trashing the DH lines
WTF
4X4's on the DH trails? How are they getting access to them?
It's one of those blooming fat bikes!
Crap!! I was going to head over there for an uplift on Friday. Is it still worth it?
Don't get too upset about it. Apparently the countryside is for everyone to share, so just exchange pleasantries when you pass them by or be ashamed to be a mountain biker if you do anything otherwise.
mikey74 yes, dont worry.
Apparently the countryside is for everyone to share
It is, for everyone who is legally allowed to be there. 4x4 probably not.
And certainly no excuse for damaging trails, don't compare this the walkers on the trail thread, totally different kettle of fish.

Not really.
live and let live and all that, but i'll wager those trails took a lot of time and effort to build, only to be destroyed in seconds by a 4x4. This has got nothing to do with shared use, walker / bikes / horses etc.
It's pure selfish vandalism on the part of 4x4 drivers.
Fervouredimage is trolling or just not v bright.
These are official fc marked dh trails.
Not really.
how is it even remotely the same!
in one instance you have a group of people doing something totally legal but perhaps a bit dim.
in this instance you have driving a 4x4 somewhere illegally and doing damage to a resource built and provided by FC/local authorities.
They are not the same at all in any way shape or form.
it'll be us next...
Wow, they must be seriously hard core off roaders to tackle that terrain in their rusty discos with 4" spring spacers and remould simex copies 🙄
Whilst not in the slightest agreeing with the 4Wd use I must be missing a few pics. The only ones I see have a bit of a tread mark along the side. I was expecting to see a hole instead of a bump.

One comment on Facebook included the following:
someone walking dogs... said he saw short wheel landy pick up jacked up etc. also had no windows so driver and passenger wearing helmets. he said she saw them in the woods by the Pludds. the bloke said (his words) its was a 4x4 race spec.
Which trail is that Zango ?
When did this happen? They wont get far long that trail.Pretty pointless really nowt as strange as folk. All the forest and they try and drive down there 🙄
Its the start of all the downhill runs made like that in July. They were doing some work on the start few weeks back.
It's pure selfish vandalism on the part of 4x4 drivers.
Hard to believe. Seriously though, have none of you ever ridden on golf courses? Or bowling greens? Same difference. Glass houses and stuff.
Ah so my my stereotyping assumption was a bit off. Sounds more like a trialer.
I believe it was Corkscrew.
Some of our local trails have had similar and its a gutter when you've spent so much time building them to have some **** come and drive over them. This is vandalism and very different to walkers on a trail or a biker on a footpath.
SOAP - Member...So some Inbread cinderford idiots are trashing the DH lines
You know who they are then? Or was that an unsupported assumption? Or do you have inside information from a baker?
It's a PITA when trails are trashed; if they are local it shouldn't be too hard to identify them and a word will be had. We've had to have an advisory word with motorbikers in the past and they've gone elsewhere when they understand the effort put into the built trails by local people.

Seriously though, I'd not ride across a golf course or a bowling green, than would be vandalism. Different difference.
Yes - Trail is the top section of Corkscrew at the FoD. 4x4 has driven down from the uplift mound. All along the newly built section and up and over the older main tabletop jump.
From a friend this afternoon just down the road at Pludds
" spoke with someone walking dogs about 10mins ago said he saw short wheel landy pick up jacked up etc. also had no windows so driver and passenger wearing helmets. he said she saw them in the woods by the Pludds. the bloke said (his words) its was a 4x4 race spec."
From one of our local experts: probably Insa Turbo special off road tyres
Op, why the Cinderford comments?

Agreed. Bollox thing to do and more of the same might trash the place but there does seem to be a bit of excessive hand-ringing about the damage so far.
Cinderford comments bit like if you came from Essex etc.One of those things which have always hung over the Forest.
meh
try sharing your trails with horse riders if you want to see them properly f***ed up
Well yes that seems to be the worse eroders of the lot.Yet as the horse has been around so long they get away with murder or should i say murdering the trails.
Meh - they've not touched any of the bits where people actually put their wheels.
I woudl still probably deck them for doing it though.
Fairplay, dobiejessmo, but it is very Cinderford specific.
No pun intended.

All those going on about us next, live and let live etc. these are trails built for a purpose with lots of hard work. Must be a very small minded petty idiot who thought it would be clever to take a 4x4 down it. Fence along the top should do it.
while it looks annoying, it certainly doesnt look to have affected the ridden line much. or am i missing something?
Its all about inbreeding/Sheep beeping 😆
while it looks annoying, it certainly doesnt look to have affected the ridden line much. or am i missing something?
Yes - the photos don't really show the true extent of the damage done to the structure of the trail/features. It would not be long before things start to slide/collapse/erode esp with the amount of traffic the trail receives and wet cold winter which we will no doubt have. Yes atm the riding line is more or less ok but it's the structure that supports that riding line and also keeps it drained which as been damaged in a reasonable number of areas.
Love to know when they were driving down corkscrew, must have been in the dark else surely someone would have seen them.
Hang on a minute. Many of you are claiming that a 4x4 wouldn't do much damage, but it's hardly a place for mixing cars and bikes - back in the summer I remember motorbikes riding the wrong way up Christmas Trees in the Mendips and I shit my pants - that would have been really messy.
The mind boggles.
Re the comments about horses, yes they mash up trails but they also help to keep them open.
#horses nightmare +2 cursing today on mashed up trails
I thought this thread would be a general moan about legal byways and over-enthusiastic green laners...
Damage aside, anyone can see that's a well manicured and dedicated bike trail with a lot of work gone into it. You've got to have a stinking attitude to think you can tear around it in a 4x4 knowing the damage it'll do. Criminal action would be justified imo.
has this actually been reported to police?...didnt one of the papers do an article on motorbikes on the trails, im sure they'd be interested in a follow up...afterall pedalabikeaway centre has done wonders for the FOD
Sorry if i have missed something, but why on earth would a mountain biker want to ride over a bowling green? They're flat, manicured and pretty boring. Surely that would be vandalism? And golf courses may look fun but again private property.
Shame about FOD. It only takes one idiot to ruin something. Glad no one was hurt and hopefully it'll all be good and sorted when I get back in the habit of riding there regularly. All the hard workthe guys have put in ruined by idiots.
Just going by the pics, those lines look well rideable. If anything they´re probably a bit too wide.
I can´t say as I´ve noticed much damage.
Some mountain bikers think it's okay to ride on "cheeky trails" leaving tyre tracks and annoying walkers.
Some 4x4 drivers think it's okay to drive on "cheeky trails" leaving tyre tracks and annoying mountain bikers.
Shocker.
Oh dear oh dear
Cyclists, walkers and horse riders are classed as vulnerable road users. Motorised vehicles are the reason they are classed as vulnerable. The two don't mix. Byways are really for farmers to access land.
1 Cyclists way may weigh around 100kg and won't really do much damage to any trail.
1 landrover weighs around 1.5 ton and can destroy a surface on any trail and make it difficult for other users.
1 walker could weigh 90kg and does very little damage.
1 Horse riders weigh a lot and still won't do much damage.
Which one shouldn't be there?
"afterall pedalabikeaway centre has done wonders for the FOD "
That very much depends on your point of view!
granted - but when i was 18, the forest wasnt much fun or great prospects..
😉
Trails are often a lot wider than the riding line so they're sustainable, losing that shoulder quickly results in the trail collapsing.
I still don't buy into the it'll be us next, as far as I'm concerned anyone using the trails under their own / horse power is fine, anything with an engine should be blanket banned.
i've looked at all the pichers and I reckon I can still see a line that even I could get my bike through.
southern softies.
1 Horse riders weigh a lot and still won't do much damage.
mmm - not my experience, possibly where trail is manicured, maintained hardpack and/or where there is one 1 horse a month, however on natural dirt trails (the sort of trails I ride) a horse in the wet can make it totally unusable to any other user type (and give this years conditions has with depressing regularity), I'm also finding that quite a few trails (Berksish) are being horse surfaced - aka lovely natural flowing singletrack, flattened, ashed and 2metres wide................
re 4x4 - I wonder if they got a network of effectively free trails to play on if there would be such an issue ?
That's awesome cheez0 but the fact is that a number of locals have put a lot of time, effort and money into building that trail for the benefit of riders like you.
I don't have a problem with a bit of cheeky motorbike or 4x4 use (I'd be a hypocrite to) but there's no need to spoil the trails that the locals have put so much effort into building.
Byways are really for farmers to access land
No. Byways are public roads. Most may not have been tarmaced but they are still public roads. Farmers don't need motorised ROW to access their land.
1 Horse riders weigh a lot and still won't do much damage.
Really?? Are you serious?? Ground pressure of a hourse is higher than a 4x4 (unless it was running on MTB tyres), do the sums. That's static ground pressure before you even consider impact verses rolling.
anything with an engine should be blanket banned
They are already have no ROW on the FOD DH trails, so what difference does that make. Except possibly marginalisation leading to more cheeky 4x4 and motorcycle use.
dont bother smoothing out the trails into some kind of forest motorway on my account, I like a few bumps and rocks, my bot-bot doesn't mind,
I rode these trials a few weeks back and it looks like they have started the tree felling, apparently a million infected trees around the forest including swallows, soudley, cinderford etc. These are removed with very big wheeled equipment. Why not contact local paper just to highlight the potential damage the 4x4's are doing and suggesting they seek out the forestry areas effected with felling. The tyre ditches would be a challenge for them and in truth the 4x4's probably haven't considered the effect they have on the trails. If you don't bike, you probably don't know the effort people put in to build them.
Coming back to the original thread, what they did was wrong. End of !
People put alot of time and effort into building those trails. With the size of the Forest why the hell they want to drive down there when they could go hundreds of other places.
That part was closed for a bit this morning, while they were working on it.
All sorted now.
