is it just hope that make them or does someone else?
cheers
When I ordered some Superstar pad they came with a catalogue that included floating rotors, I can't find them on the website but I might be worth dropping them an email.
Whats not to like about the Hopes?
Dont magura make them...called Ventil or something like that...?
Avid, £52 for 6 bolt, or £62 for Centrelock.
Buy Hope ones...
Shimano XT or XTR too now in 6 bolt, around £30
ah yeah hope are good but they are seriously pricey thats all, wondering if you can get slightly less 'bling' ones cheaper
er.. none of the others are actually floating... They're riveted on to an aluminium carrier for weight saving.
Certainly true in the case of Avid and Shimano, don't Magura do 'proper' floating ones though? Think they're only in the bigger sizes.
From Wiggle
"The Hope floating rotor features a Stainless Steel Braking Surface riveted to an Central Aluminium Spider."

The steel part on a hope one presses against the outer side of a rivet. The inner side of the rivet presses against the ally carrier. When the steel heats up it expands and the slightly oversized rivet allows it to float from side to side.
All the other rotors with ally carriers sandwich the steel and ally parts together side to side.. Hence they can't float when hot.
Bikewhisperer is right, I was thinking the Avid XX ones were proper floating rotors, but they're not, it seems the Magura Venti Discs aren't either.
Scrub are now doing a magnesium/metal matrix floating rotor, but if you thought the Hope ones were expensive these will give you a heart attack.
there are now xtr 6 bolt two piece rotors? ive got the xt ones in 6 bolt but cant see any xtr?!?!
ooh.. sexy scrubbers!
I like the fact that you can only use organic pads with them.. Wouldn't last a winter on our shores!
Yes I've been tempted to try them in the past, but just keep thinking that brake rotors is not the place to save 20g!
I had some of the old Stan's aluminium rotors, in the dry they were brilliant, better than steel, but in the wet they just didn't work, then wore out in 20 minutes!
weirdly, after trying multiple rotors on my singlespeed, (lots of secondhanders lying around in the shop) I've found that Hayes rotors are the best. They're soft and wear out quickly, but have good bite.. I put an avid 160 on last week and nearly headbutted a tree, even after bedding in. People here whinge on about brake pads, but don't think about their rotors.
I'd be lying if I said I'd ever really noticed a difference! Mind you having worn right through the backing on a set of pads, my Hope Pro floating rotors should have lots of 'bite' now, they're certainly nicely scoured!
Formula make some as well
