Anyone use Northwave Multicross Plus GTX?

My Five Ten Trailcross GTX are decent, but my feet are getting a bit cold even with thick Sealskinz (maybe a bit tight not helping, but the boots are thin and not insulated)

How is the grip, waterproofness and insulation on the Northwaves?

Ta

You'll get warm and toasty trying to get them on for a start ! Mine clipped version have just got the one loop though so I'm going to get another added to try and help .@StuE that sounds like a plan ,I've got a pair of Northwave Arctic boots I thought would solve my never ending cold feet issues alas not so ! 🙄

Also @StuE I've always been dubious of heated socks , looks like they all come from China which makes me wonder how safe they are , got a link to yours?

There are much more expensive socks available but these are working for me so far.

Haven't tried the ones in the link but I really like these, they're walking shoes but they work great on the bike imo (they are actually quite shit as scottish outdoor walking shoes, they lack mud grip). Not perfect but by far my favourite flat pedal shoe for actual winter.

They're very warm, to the point of being a downside, I'd like to wear them more in autumn in spring but you boil. Not perfectly all day waterproof but better than most (they're "walking shoe" waterproof but bike puddle blasts seem to defeat it) but they also stay decently warm when wet. There is zero ingress protection at the top, you have to wear trousers to stop it getting in the top.

Grip is surprisingly good, I'm a 5 10 guy and inevitably they're not as grippy but they've never bothered me and honestly that's quite unusual, I don't even like lower grip bike shoes normally. I think they have adequate rubber grip but also quite good tread/pin mechanical interface, and also the sole is pretty flexible and that gives them superb feel unlike some clumpy winter boots. Eh, I like a reasonanly spiky pedal, Nano-ish, which does give a shoe an easy job, I don't know how these would do on a lower grip pedal

(not everyone will like this of course, it's an opinion thing but I bought htese and my Trailcrosses at about the same time and it was never a contest, I sold the Trailcrosses and kept these just because the overall riding package suited me better. This was like 90% about the feel underfoot, I felt separated and anaesthetised on the Trailcrosses)

I mean my second favourite winter boots are also not riding shoes (5 10 Guide Tennies) so perhaps I'm just a wrong un. But honestly I keep trying and being disappointed by expensive bike winter shoes.

How do yours come up size wise. Up half a size for thick socks?

Your link wouldn't work yesterday when I was on the pc, so didn't know what your were sharing, can see them now

Yeah I see Fairbanks come up every year, but don't think they'd be for me, I feel I need a flat grippy sole

I'm quite wedded to my long Sealskinz tbh, but might give some a try

Dunno if they still do them but for winter/filthy riding I use some Five Ten Impacts (Five Ten Impact High Review). Never had a problem with my feet being cold in them and are very waterproof - never had wet socks after a ride.

They do. But given you seem to be considering the Northwaves, I assumed you didn't care too much what they looked like 😀

Can't help with the Northwave but I really like the Vaude Moab AM Mid winter,  so much so we have his and hers... actually waterproof, warm and grippy on pedals.

Horses for courses. My Trailcross GTX + thick merino socks work perfectly for my Reynaud's-riddled tootises.

My trailcross were good for three winters but now seem to let water in so feet get colder quicker. I was also looking at Northwave but the only reasonably priced ones were in the EU and I didn't fancy the faff of returns. Ended up with fox union all weather. Only done a couple of rides but very happy with them so far. Only negative being they require a bit more effort to remove than the trailcross.

The Vaudes are great. If anything they’re a touch warm for much of winter in the south! I’d say they size up a little large.

Just a quick note to say that sizing up when buying winter footwear is a must. Having unimpaired circulation has made all the difference for me, even with boots that aren't particularly wintery.
