As above...

I'm set on Five Tens as I love the grippy sole but do the Elements version actually keep the water out or am I better off buying a cheaper pair of Five Tens and spending the difference on some sealskinz/merino/neoprene socks?

Cheers all.....

Cant compare them to normal Five Tens but my Elements (non Vxi) seem to keep the weather out better than my Gravels. Warmer as well - not that they've really been tested this winter. Not had a problem with wet socks yet other than it coming in the top of the shoe.

Only wet feet I've had have been from water coming in from the top

Waterproof trousers and short gaiters will stop that (and limit what comes in through the lace holes)

Warm dry feet in the winter are great!!

I found the vxi elements to be a bigger fit than other 5:10's I have. They are definitely 100x more moisture resistant than standard ones(not a scientific measurement) and I prefer the standard sole. YMMV.

Not as comfy as others due to less padding, and I don't think they will last as long. They just feel 'different'.

Don't buy them thinking you'll have dry feet - you won't, they do let water in, just maybe not as much as other 510s.

i love mine, seem to be 100% waterproof (apart from the large hole where your foot goes in), i hose mine down after a ride and they are dry by the next day rather than 5 days later with the old 5-10's they have made this winter much more pleasant, the grip on the soles with SS nano's has at times made me "unclip" as i thought they were spds. they also feel stiffer for pedalling than my old 5-10s, i paid £60 last year from CRC when they had a deal on and i had a voucher, worth every penny imho
