M10 or M12 bolt & nut plus some BIG washers and hey presto one headset press. I picked washers that fitted inside the cups so there was less slippage. Went in quite easily.

Ive always used a copper/hide mallet, commonly known as a "nammer".

Heat the frame with hot water and freeze the cups. Makes it all go in easier

If you use the hammer method I prefer to support ther frame on my leg so you are working aginst the inertia of the frame rather than hitting it into the floor.

I prefer the home made press out of threaded bar and washers. Just make sure it goes in straight

Not much point in freezing the cups. The temperature change is relatively little, but I suppose it all helps.

I use Kitt's rubber hammer, personally. Unless I can't find that, then I use the block of wood.

find some washers that fit snuggly into the cups. slowly tighten making sure the cup go in evenly/straight. i've used a series of washers as i found if only using one between the cup and bolt the washer tended to mis-shape.

cost about 1.50 and a bit more precise than a hammer.
