I see they come with a joining pin attached to the wide end, but do they come with a joining pin for the narrow end too? If not, do you have to source those separately? It's a KMC Z1 chain I want to shorten.
I’m not quite with you here?? Anyway, I just use quick link type connectors although I preferred it when KMC supplied the old type with the spring clip, because you can remove the chain without having to have any slack, which is an advantage on a single speed.
I don't think so but its been years since i used one.
Mind you i just reuse the old when that i didn't pop fully out.
Or use a quick link.
Hi,
Wide end pin is to be pushed into chain, on the narrow end you either use chains own pin or quick link, if you happen to have one.
At least that's what I used to do with half links.
Cheers!

Yep, this is how they work. They can sometimes be a bit of a bodge though at the half link is wider than the chain you are fitting it to so the link plats get slightly splayed.
Gotcha, thanks. You're essentially replacing a male end with another male end, to join with whatever connector you'd normally use. I've ordered a KMC 3/32 half-link to join to a KMC Z1 3/32 chain, so hopefully it'll run smooth.
I've now fitted the half link but it doesn't sit onto the wide teeth of my narrow wide chainring. Are they not compatible? What type of chainring works best for a half link 3/32 chain?
Are they not compatible?
I wouldn't expect them to be.
What type of chainring works best for a half link 3/32 chain?
Just a standard singlespeed ring, something like https://surlybikes.com/parts/stainless_steel_chainrings
Yeah they are really not compatible.
You have a narrow narrow on you chain at the half link.
What type of chainring works best for a half link 3/32 chain?
Any non-NW that would be 3/32 or narrower.
Don't make that mistake of buying 1/8 wide chainring for 3/32 chain. Won't work...
Cheers!
I.
