Had quite a productive day in the garage, stripped my forks, cleaned the seals, new oil and dropped the travel from 115 to 95mm. Replaced the crown race with the aid of a screwdriver, hammer and a bit of plastic pipe. Chopped 5mm of the steerer with a junior hacksaw and a large jubilee clip used as a saw guide, worked very well too ๐
Did an air can service on a Fox RP2 shock, stripped all the parts of my hardtail, all cleaned and re-greased, new XTR gear cables. Then built this...
What do you think? To be fair I was worried about doing some of the work myself but it was all pretty easy. I was planning on upgrading to a Anthem X frame when I could get hold of one but I couldn't bring myself to part with the best part of a grand on a frame!!
I want to use it mainly for xc/marathons as 50mile+ rides were just getting a bit much on a hardtail, planned upgrades so far are another set of spd's, most likely xtr's as the body on these 540's is pretty worn. I'll see how it rides with a 90mm stem might have to go for a slightly longer one. Might also look at swapping the bars for some carbon low risers or flat bars. I would like a nice set of white sid forks, but there is a lot of use to be had out of these reba's yet. Other than that all the other parts are pretty sound, maybe not the lightest but tried, tested and reliable. Weighs around 25 1/2 pounds at the minute so I'm pretty chuffed with that.
Well done, learning to work on it will save you cash and add an extra diamension to your hobbie
Nice one. Thats spot on for what I want to build up and for the same use (50mile+ rides ) although a house purchase is getting in my way. ๐
Hasn't stopped me buying some Rebas with Maxle and I'll be getting some wheels on the Hope Hoop group buy ๐
Only concern with the Anthem is a low BB height. I had a Superlight and found I got a lot of pedal strikes. Any idea what the BB height is on a Anthem X?
You can do my forks next week.
Nice work!
