Three months in the making, most bits from STW and ebay, all is left is changing brake pads and fixing rear caliper. John (Junkyard) helped out to fit the tensioner yesterday.

Part list that I can think of:

Kinesis Decade Virtue frame (46cm medium)
Pace RC31 carbon fork
ZTR Olympic on XTR hubs, DT Swiss revolution spokes
Schwalbe Racing Ralph 2.1/Nobby Nic 2.25 (both tubeless)
Bontrager Lite Cranks(32t front, 16t Surly sprocket rear)
Deus XC Stem
Monkeylite Carbon bars
FSA Carbon post
Gobi XM Wingflex Saddle
Time Rock S pedals
Hope Moni Mini (160mm f/r floating rotors)

Weight: 22lbs, although i think its much less as my hardtail weighs 31.5lbs according to the scales when it should be around 28-29lbs with lighter forks (30lbs with heavy suntours).

I thought it was sliding dropout, why the tensioner.

Hasn't the frame got those DMR Swopouts that would've allowed you to run horizontal dropouts and do away with the gash tensioner?

Yes manson - it does, however I chose to go with vertical dropouts as proper chain tugs for QR axle would have costed as much as a tentioner, but then i would have needed to mess around with adjusting how straight the wheel was with the disc etc etc. This seemed like a better option.

How did you find the DMR tensioner to set up - I had problems with mine (getting enough tension on it)

At first we were confused which way to put the spring, but then found a good angle and the chain feels about perfect!

Neil - nice riding with you too in Gisburn, give us a ring if you are thinking of Rivington.

I wasn't very impressed with Guisburn for some reason, it was wayy too flat and some bits were just pointless (going up and down on bumps, not enough speed to pump or lift).

This following week for Rivi sounds good to me.

Strange to see a tensioner on a frame that can tension a chain.
It would be smoother without and chaintugs for a QR are not that hard to find, nor are they expensive.

mtbmatt - it probably would, however I have tried 2 different chain tugs from local bike shops, both did not fit well. The only decent QR chaintug was the Surly Tugnaut or so, it was £18 + delivery i think.

There is nothing stopping me from getting them one day though, meantime this will have to do 🙂

@ slowrider - I also thought that, its only 100mm though, maybe because it is not oversized it looks so long? This will be a climbing machine anyway, so i have not got plans for wheelies and bunnyhops 🙂

Yeah, Wednesday should be good for Rivington, quite a few people will be out I think 🙂 If I get my rear brakes sorted and receive new pads, might ride the SS for first time.

my frame came with the chain tug.

That just looks so sweet!

You just have to see the colour in the flesh so to speak, photos dont do it justice.

New poster to stw.com and 1st post has to go to this thread as that (your) build is simply stunning, clean and fresh looking.

Now time to get it nice'n'dirty. 😛

Without researching, what grips are those you have?

Be better/useful if they would of put an e.b.b. on there instead of swopouts imo.

*waves at MTBMAFF*

bike looks good, but would look much neater without the tensioner

haha, cheers guys. Next month when I have some cash will have a look at getting the tensioner sorted, as right now it has costed me much more than I first expected (and still adding up with brake rebuild).

The grips are Lizard Skins Moab (non-lockon). I have some lockons on hardtail which very happy with, but these are for a little weight save 🙂

Looks very nice, can you put some proper pedals on it tho? (so I can have a spin next night ride) 🙂

EDIT: oh and while I also have dispensed with lock on grips to save weight in the past I wouldn't reccomend it on a SS, too much wrenching on the bars, normal grips are likely to slip. But if you've stuck them on well see how it goes.

Like it, though there seems to be something distincly wrong with the angle of the saddle.
