Went out this morning for a spin on my cx bike around Bristol (way too much ice on the back roads to risk a road ride, and didn't feel like MTB). It was bl00dy cold, but clear blue skies and sunshine, my second favourite weather (after clear blue skies and sunshine, but hot!).

Trails were lovely, when I rode the same route two weeks ago a lot of it was unrideable, gloopy as hell with no grip at all, cue much comedy wheelspin. Today they were frozen solid and grippy. The same couldn't be said of some of the lanes however, lots of sliding about on sheet ice. A great morning to be out!

I can't believe you just stood there photographing while a horse ate your saddle!

Days like those feed the soul - never regret dragging myself out on cold blue mornings - often struggle with the initial motivation though (inspired to do similar tomorrow now - thanks!)

Wonders where that stone wall is..

The horse will have terrible indigestion.

Had a great early ride Bristol way on my cx too this morning, cant fault the bike for these conditions - would have been lethal on road bike and cant cover as much ground on a mtb.

Dont know how I've managed without one.

I got back to my bike to find him / her chewing on my saddle! Maybe mistook it for a banana......

Dundry - south of Bristol. By the start of the off-road descent that drops you out above Winford.
