Hi all, opinions please.

I tried a small bottle of fenwicks fs1 that dilutes into 1 litre over the weekend, bought from Amazon in attempt to reduce my cleaning costs, or be able to use more cleaner without worrying.

The fenwicks was no better than p*ss. I hosed off the majority then sprayed it all over the bike, literally didn't do a thing. Then tried again with the same results.

Is it really that bad? Or have I been sold a duff sample or something? I want something comparable with muc off or better, but cheaper that's safe for carbon.

Thanks alot.

Tried out some kingud cleaner at the weekend. Sprayed on dirty bike, left for 5 minutes then rinsed. It worked like a charm!

Its biodegradable and a small family business in wales. What’s not to like?

Been using FS1 for years, always found it decent stuff. And it doesn't tarnish aluminium like Muc-off.

Piss is actually quite good if you leave for a couple of minutes before rinsing.

Always been an Fenwicks user, chuck some in a bucket and then continue to fill with warm soapy water, then use a selection of brushes to dip into the water and scrub off the bike. Always comes out looking spotless. Tried mucoff before and found it be poor in comparison.

Another long time FS1 user without issues.

OP - might just have been the way I read it, but did you use any brushes at all?? or just

sprayed it all over the bike, literally didn’t do a thing. Then tried again with the same results.

I've not used anything that doesn't need some agitation to effect the cleaning

Overpriced dung, all of it. Stardrops, hot water, bucket, brush and a cloth. A quid from my local savers.

Another FS1 fan here. Never had any problems with it but as mentioned above, it does need a bit of agitation, much like the others of this type.

FS1 neat is also a superb chain degreaser. drip it on, leave for a minute then quickly go over the chain with a toothbrush and hose off. Works perfectly for me 🙂

If you are using it as a chain cleaner make sure you wash it all off then relube ASAP after though.

Tried Fenwicks and it worked ok diluted a wee bit stronger than recommended.

Then I tried this and it works a lot better (for me) Also a lot cheaper.

You obviously don't have to buy 15 litres but it works out cheaper. I dilute it 50:1 for general cleaning and 10:1 for the transmission. I was wary of using it on the brakes at first but no problems after two years of using this. I use it on the bikes and the vehicle fleet. Gets rid of black streaks on the motorhome a treat.

D.

Cheers for the replies all.

To be honest, I didn't agitate on the frame. I prefer not to as it just scratches it. I don't mind leaving residue or water marks, as long as the majority is off. That's probably why I have to go over it twice, and end up using so much muc off.

Hense me looking for a cheaper alternative. I'm wary of ebay stuff tbh. I'll look into your suggestions tho

I always keep FS1 around for moments when I need heavy duty bike friendly cleaners. I generally keep some at the 1+9 dilution you’ve probably used in a squirt bottle for drivetrain cleaning.  I honestly hardly ever use it though.  Cheap Halfords car shampoo (not a waxy one) made up in a bucket with warm water and a sponge then a quick hose off usually does me.  Not really a fan of heavy duty cleaners for every time use. Still only takes a few minutes and still looks good...

I prefer the fenwicks to mucoff still on my first concentrate bottle I use an old mucoff bottle diluted about 8/1 .

i tend to hose down the worst of the mud off then spray it all over ,

then after a few mins (usually hosing down my bag shorts jacket legs etc)

i use an asda soft brush (a lot cheaper than mucoff) to clean it down

i then use the “mucoff bike protect” spray to wipe down with micro fibre cloth, that is the difference .. once dried no streaks or mud
