Ordering some Nexties (yellow for blue/black matte bike)

Would matte or gloss rims be best, or is it just a personal thing?

Obviously it's a personal thing but I think the gloss look shite, just tacky and cheap. Nearly everyone orders matt 3k or UD and there's a reason for that

Given the month and a half wait for gloss ones which had me threatening to cancel my order at the end if I didn't get the rims within a very specific timeframe, I'd suggest matte as they had some of these just laying round.
They're nice rims (I've got the 80mm's) but dear god, I'd rather have got whiskys the amount of time I was waiting, and I'm used to ordering from light-bike too. These guys took the piss.

not sure quite when but slam69 is supposed to be getting Nextie rims & the same listed price to sabe you any tax/import hassles.

I have read that the Gloss are better from a snow shifting POV.

I'm running van helgas front and rear - tubeless with wickens & soderstrom sealant and gorilla tape clear for rim tape.

So the big thing is as the sealant goes to the outside, you need the rim taping to be *good* or it will leak as I discovered on my rear wheel - re-taped and all fine. Also the interface is so tight on the tyres that getting a tyre off is interesting as the height of the rim tape acts as another bed for it to get over and into the middle well.
First time going up with a standard track pump required a lot of effort but was doable. 2nd time was a lot easier as the tyre'd stretched out a bit.

I've got a pair of Nextie 50mm 29+ rims I put on Fatsno's for my Mukluk.

I was very happy with the rims and order to receiving was about 3 weeks and that was over Chinese new year so not to bad.

I went for Matt UD as it matches the Salsa Makwa fork I have on the front.
I'm very happy with them and as soon as I have the money i'll be getting a pair of the 80mm dragons as well.

I've onlt tried the Stans.

Works fine on my front, a Sury Bud, using the ghetto method.

But can I get the rear to seal, a Nate & now a maxxis Mammoth, on a Tundra rim, Can I ****.

Tundras are *crap* for tubeless. They're cheap rims, look nice and vaguely work but they seem smaller than any other rims out there so tyres are basically floppy on them. I had a knard work itself off the bead twice on one rim in particular.

Those look like some healthy tubeless bead seats! Or is it a trick of the camera?

I reckon carbon rims will be on the shopping list for my Fatty in the near future, depending on how much of a PITA the warrentied tyres turn out to be.

OTOH, it's now been with their warrenty department for 4 and a bit weeks which is getting to be beyond a joke.

It's not a trick of the camera - they're quite annoying to get off the bead in the first place, really does lock em in good.

Also, hope freewheels don't half sound loud when paired with those rims. I mean, really loud.

I'm watching this.

I have a set of matt white 80mm nexties at home waiting to go to my wheel builder.

Look nice in the box.

I went the whole hog with bright red ones, 80mm. I'm hoping the gloss helps with mud shedding.
The rear was a pig to build, short spokes offset onto a Rohloff.
I had to drill out the spoke holes at an angle to allow the spokes to come out at a sensible angle, rather than coming out perpendicular and then a nasty kink in the spoke.

The tubeless bead seat is ace, airs up easy and should be nigh on impossible to burp with the grip the tyre takes.

If you want coloured, get gloss. The lacquer stops the colour fading.

As for the chap who says Nextie take the piss with waiting, mine were with me in 2 weeks. Inc customs. Unlucky perhaps?

I saw some pictures of a OO Fatty with white Nextie rims & thought - Yesssss.

From the photos I prefer the profile of those narrower rims but I guess 80mm makes more sense.

Loving the colour on these massive rims, very cool, I never thought coloured rims could look good.

Til you change frame obviously ๐Ÿ˜†

yeah, maybe, if they hadn't lied to me three times in that six week period about them getting shipped that week and then followed this with an email saying:

"Production line prefer to make road or mtb rims rather than fat rims, unless we push again and again. To be honest, because of 80mm lead time, we've cancelled several other customers' orders of 80mm fat rims."

So maybe I got unlucky, or maybe you got lucky.
