whatcha' got?
it will be paired with a Rubber Queen 2.2 UST black chili front tyre, not keen on using different brands of tyres front & rear but conti dont really make a grippy/fast rear tyre
will be used in the peak, rocks etc, so has to be UST and often link in lots of road sections to get to and from said rocks, so want something fast rolling, but also grippy when it turns a bit wet out and slippy for climbing off road
moon on a stick content im sure, but i cant be the only one out there struggling with this 🙁
or shall i just sod it and run my Rubber Queen black chili 2.2 UST's as a pair all year round?
2.4 ust RQ. On the front and stick the 2.2 on the back!

I run 2.2 RQ Black Chili tyres on both ends of my AM bike, they work extremely well. The 2.2 is pretty mahoosive, grip has never been an issue for me.
Not UST but tubeless dead easily - great on grit!

2.2 and 2.4 Rubber Queen UST BC will do what you want it to do - maybe better than anything else - if you don't mind paying for it. Must be the most expensive combination out there? [Sounds like you already have the 2.2s though?)
2.4 RQ UST is a beast - would be top dog for a front tyre in the Peak IMHO. I used to run one on an 819 and I reckon the rim was a bit on the narrow side for it - which is why I stopped using it.
Use a race king, plenty grippy enough.
Maxxis Ardent EXO 2.4 - brilliant big volume but fast rolling and grippy tyre.
cheers folks - as it sounds at the min id be better sticking my 'spare' rubber queen 2.2ust bc on the back too?
it was more getting to and from the trails abit quicker, but to be honest the more i think about it the RQ aint that slow on the rear, and when i have run it on the back ive probably only had 25psi in, so ill probably just keep an eye on the pressure and always try to run it about 32ish to keep it a bit faster rolling on the road
garry i genuinely dont think id get a 2.4 under the arch of my revelations, the 2.2s only just clear it
Hans Dampf, pick the compound depending on how much drag you're willing to deal with for the amount of grip - they're better than RQ's though IME
hmmm ive not seen much of these hans dampf, a few lads ive spoken to have said good things about them, and one said its very similar to a RQ
id only get it in UST though, but i will check them out to see what the tread looks like etc

I don't agree with the 'rides heavy', they seem the opposite to me, but the rest of the review is good.
Bontager XR4 2.35,had these on one of my bikes,big tyre large volume and comes in a TLR version.
Hans Dampf is very good and also comes in Tubeless ready,big tyre with a styrong casing
Hans Dampf, pacestar on the rear.
Make sure its the Evolution series and you are onto a winner.
I also use a Trailstar (tackier) on the front. By far the best tyres i have ever used 🙂
Bikediscount do them pretty cheap with good delivery times.

Tubeless ready only, although they advertise that it's UST rim compatible. I'll find out soon!
I have used them on Flow rims running tubeless with sealent,worked amazingly,and plenty of grip,found they were better at 20-25 psi

Surprisingly high rolling resistance, considering the lack of grip over a Minion DHF.
Although you don't need much grip on the back to be fair

how big do they come up?
they weigh slightly less too, 100 gram per tyre and seem like they have thick sidewalls
id go for the trail version i guess
Trailstar is the grippier / tackier version. Its up to you but i would only run that on the frone. Pacestar is the stiffer and faster rolling version which is generally run on the rear.
Great all round tyres combo.
cheers mactheknife, is the pacestar still got the same strength carcass?? is the trailstar just the nobbly bits being softer?
according to the schwalbe chart on the website they both have the same rating for the speed
but if you've used them both first hand obviously id go for the pacestar on the rear as long as it offers the same sidewalls/protection
The difference is tread compound, sidewalls are the same.

A couple of the guys I ride with tried them. They are back on the RQ, although they tried the HD on the F&R. Just on the back it might not be so bad.

how did it compare speed wise to a RQ on the rear?
ill just go for the pacestar if i go down this route defo, i want the fastest possible on the rear so like mactheknife id go pacestar rear and trail one front
I thought it was just me, but everyone I ride with has tried them & ditched them. Odd, because they generally get good reviews. They were fine until I started pushing the bike harder & all of a sudden the grip fell off a cliff.
I've not used a RQ, so can't compare it to that, it's certainly slower than the Rear tyres I tend to use (Purgatory/Eskar/Ardent) if that helps.

its pointless swapping the RQ's for them if they are no faster, as my RQ's i really really rate for grip so no issues there, just the speed really
2.4 RQ fits my Revelation (2011 model I think). Its tight though, I had to ditch the fender bender.
How much narrower is a HD than a 2.4 RQ? The RQ is rubbing a bit on one of my chainstays, I need something slightly smaller.
Was asking about RQ vs the Hans Dampf a while back. Jedi told me he's used both fairly extensively and whilst the Hans Dampfs gripped pretty well, they just didn't do anything plenty of cheaper (ie. Maxxis) tyres do well already, and they were quite a bit slower rolling that the RQ's he reckoned.
What bike is this going on? How about a 2.2" MK2 on the back?
DezB, I've just picked up a 2.35" pair of Toro's (slightly narrower than a 2.2" RQ if anyone is interested, but then I expected that!) really cheap in the Tubeless ready version. That review you linked to is for the UST version. The Tubeless Ready version is sub 700g per tyre, so 250g lighter per tyre! And they don't feel especially flimsy either. Just debating whether to run them as a F&R pair on my hardtail, or run one on the back of the hardtail and on the back of my full sus too, paired probably with a 2.35 Minion up front on each, or possibly a 2.2" RQ.
mboy - its on a five, its used for peak district and with a fair bit of road to contend with to get to and from, which i dont mind at all but id prefer it to be as painless as possible rolling resistance wise
i did think about MK2 UST, but conti themselves said it wouldnt be much quicker than a Black Chili 2.2 UST that i have currently, so it was a bit of a non starter...whether or not its cos the mk2 dont do a black chili ust i dont know, but thats supposedly quicker and grippier at the same time (27% faster than non BC and 30%~ ish grippier than a non BC according to conti) so maybe thats why they said it wouldnt be much quicker than my current RQ's
maybe if they did a mk2 ust BC it would be the answer especially if that makes it 27% faster rolling, but at the moment they dont 🙁

I only do UST. Have tried Hutch TRs (Cougars) and they didn't last very long.
OW, im pretty sure the Evo versions have the snakeskin sidewalls.
And regarding the price, they come as a set from bikediscount for £60.
Its funny how everyone has differing experiences of kit. I know a few people who absolutely love these tyres including myself. But i wouldn't be paying the full price from UK stores.
If you get on with RQ already and you like how they perform it might not be worth taking the risk with a different type TBH.
You already own it! If there's something that beats the Rubber Queen on those fronts then I've yet to hear of it. Running much higher pressure will make a big difference because you'll end up running on just the most central parts of the centre knobs, rather than having the whole width of those big wide blocks trying to glue themselves to the tarmac.
I have my rear one up at 30psi in the dry on a hardtail but I'd run it harder if I had roads to deal with and rear suspension to help out.

am intrugied by these now though, the tread does look totally different to a RQ, but as i like the grippyness of them off road i think id be mad to get rid totally, i will defo have a play with the RQ's pressure rear first though
