2nd time using my Endura 3/4 Spray baggies and 5 minutes into a wet CyB ride and my arse is soaked.
I washed then with non-Bio after the 1st ride, but surely I can't have gooosed them already? Do you guys think I should send them back to CRC under warranty?

I find Endura's quality very hit n miss nowadays to be honest. Reckon you should at least call/email CRC.

I haven't washed mine yet. I let them dry out and brush off the crap. I would say that you may have to reseal them again, but I wouldn't wash them unless you really have to. You can buy the special cleaner/sealer stuff from most decent outdoor shops.

Send them back, theyr'e not fit for either purpose or as described by the sounds of it.
Only typical of lots of MTB stuff.

CRC will probably replace. Good luck getting any kind of response out of Endura if you contact them though.

You just killed them. Read the instructions.

Seriously? I was considering buying a pair, won't bother if this is true, that's hopeless. Anyone confirm or deny?

Wash them (and any waterproof with taped seams) with 'proper' stuff like Grangers or Nikwax.

tbh I've a pair that have pretty much been worn every wet ride for the last 18 months, which is a lot of rides.

Wash with everything else, often tumbled - still waterproof.

My Altura Attacks (3 pairs) have been washed at standard temps with standard stuff for years, and still work perfectly. Well, the pair with the hole in leaks ๐Ÿ˜‰

Just wash them with water - or soap flakes.

+1

Do you really feel you need to wash them after every ride?

You need to reproof them, best just to wash them in water or nikwax

I have Endura MT500's 3/4 length been keeping me dry all year, well as dry as can be expected given 2012 monsoon conditions.

I'm on my second pair of MT500 Spray baggy shorts. The first pair leaked from new and got sent back and replaced.

The new pair had different material in the top of the rear, a soft shell type material that soaks up water like a sponge. The waterproof membrane in the seat also wore through after 3 rides. I should really send this pair back too but haven't bothered.

i've had a pair for about 3 months, they are really comfy shorts, and defo a step up in terms of stopping me having a soaking wet arse...i bought some for the *ahem* summer we had, as i was sick to death of getting back in the car with a soaking wet bum!

they perform well, but as the arse is the only taped waterproof area, i actually cant see how its ever going to be fully waterproof TBH, once you start wearing them in grit etc there is no way the material will stay waterproof combined with mud/etc, mine started to wear through on the arse after about 2 months, to the point now where they have actually got a hole/wear on the taped seams ๐Ÿ™

ill be taking them back to the lbs, as endura have suggested, but i can only see it happening again and again!

still even now they are better than wearing non-waterproof shorts, on the bum, i still get a bit of a wet harras but its no where near as wet as if i'd have worn normal shorts...

waterproof shorts just fail on the bum overtime, great to start with but the elements of MTB'ing are a recipie for disaster/failure

What is it with some of you lot's aversion to washing? All my mtb kit gets washed after every ride because it's covered in sweat, muck, dust (sometimes!) and occasionally shit (assorted animals), blood and god knows what else...? It will stink if I don't!

My 3/4 MT500 just go in with the rest on a normal wash. Bike gear needs to cope with getting shit up and washed regular else it ain't bike gear.

My Endura shorts fell apart pretty quickly, not impressed. I wouldn't buy their stuff again.

I wash mine in a bucket with plain water when I get home. Every 6 months or so wash them in nik wax tech wash. On to my second pair I was so impressed with how they lasted. Just got to look after them right.

I've tried a few & in my experience the only waterproof shorts that work are Gore. Clearly, YMMV of course.

I bought Endura humvee's in July - been out a minimum 3 times a week since then - wash them when I am back on shift (3 on, 3 off) in with the normal washing, on delicate wash ๐Ÿ˜ณ and they are still going strong. Perhaps you have just been unlucky? I have'nt treated mine yet - don't need to.

Had altura attacks for 2 years, washed with the rest of my kit with whatever soap we have in, without issue. The endura kit i have purchased previously has always appeared well spec'ed and decent value. But it has never lasted, i don't bother with endura any more.

I've been seriously impressed with my MT500 Sprays. They are coming up on 4yrs old, get washed about once a week, have been reproofed 3 times iirc, and have only just started thinning in the posterior. I'll be buying another pair, though no doubt I'll be back soon complaining how Endura are 'hit-or-miss' (which I have experienced with other things).

Spin, I found Endura very good in replacing some shorts I had a problem with a couple of years after I bought them and to be fair they didn't have to.

This - I wash mine with no detergent whatsoever on 'freshen up' cycle.

In answer to your question. Yes send them back and claim under warranty and learn from your ways! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I've had very mixed experience with MT500 Spray Baggies. My OH bought a pair when they very first came onto the market, she wears them a lot and they're still going strong after a couple of years - they get washed with the rest of bike & running kit in normal Persil detergent (without fabric conditioner).

However, I'm on my 3rd pair that have all leaked almost from new. First pair lasted about 3 wet rides, the others both leaked on their first wet ride. I've tried reproofing without success - I think the water just gets in through the seams. So, IME, I'd say they're the usual Endura hit & miss quality (seems to have got worse when they moved production to China!).

Anyway, send 'em back for refund or, if yer feeling lucky, an exchange.

p.s. a**e fabric on later MT500's feels and looks slightly different to early ones - maybe cheaper fabric & seam tape?!

p.p.s. If you can still get 'em, I can recommend the Scott Paclite waterproof shorts.

Weird how there's such a mixed experience of Endura stuff. I haven't tried the MT500 shorts but I do have some Venturi 3/4s that are waterproof all over, not just in the botty region. They get washed in the machine with normal detergent at 30 degrees and are still very nicely waterproof after 3 years. There is now a hole in one of the pockets, but you should see what I carry in there ๐Ÿ˜‰

After waiting a few days for an email response from CRC they have asked me to post them back and they'll inspect them- what ever that means. I've risked it and gone for an exchange. Hopefully 2nd time lucky.

Gore Alp X is your friend. Mine get washed pretty much after every ride, at 30 degrees with non-bio gentle liquid wash.

Yes, they're expensive but last for years and years.

I've read too many bad reports on here of Endura/Altura stuff so have never bothered with it.
