With everything gone wacky races ballistic again, it's all fkd.
Anyone made it to work this week not blinded by a constant assault on ones peripheral vision?
I gave up and rode home the wrong way up that bit of road on Princes Street. Paid for that surface I did.
cnts.
🙂
Alternatively, now it's dark in the morning, Meggetland to Harrison Park via the canal is like the Singapore Grand Prix.
Special.
It is amazing.
someone decided to put a load of coloured solar powered led lights down teh canal to mark the path,
Well added NB: TJ.
Is there a market for a good old fashioned "local" thread for stuff such as this?
Worthwhile adding the steps from Calton Hill to London Road and inappropriate things regarding transcending from the Castle to the gardens.downwards.
🙂
I have no idea what your point is, caller.
It is worse in Edinburgh than usual just now - coming in my way, aside from the bus drivers being more grumpy than they generally are because of the Princes St holocaust, there are gas works coming in at Minto st so traffic building up there too.
Just get out of bed earlier and miss the traffic I say !
Yup, my commute also hell today as the council have shut too many roads in a close space/put up road works on the other. Russell Road is now also shut to bikes too - could get through yesterday but fences up covering the pavements today.
Usual 10m commute took me nearly 25mins and a bus nearly ran me off the road too. 😡
Princess Street (fortunately) doesn't directly affect my run in.
Getting through Haymarket from Morrison Street and Haymarket Terrace is effed up to the maxx though - or was last time I did it at the end of last week. Fine if you need to do some lane closures, but generally it's best if you close the same lane before and after a busy junction so people have a clue where they should be going.
I've stopped wondering if the cooncil is on crack - I now want to know what sort of crack they are on.
Still, I got the bus yesterday and apart from probably catching bus AIDS six times over, it cost £2.80 return and took nearly twice as long as riding. So could be worse...
Haymarket is diabolical. I needed to go to Newbridge after work, from central Edinburgh. Was a good citizen so obeyed the signs at Tollcross "Tram Works (Oh no it doesn't) Avoid Haymarket" and thought I'd cut through Gorgie/Russell Road to get to Costorphine road and avoid the Haymarket intersection. Russell Road closed off "Tram Works (NO THEY DON'T)" OK fine, as you were, back along Dalry Road to Haymarket. Can't turn left at Haymarket, getting sent back along towards Princes St. What ?? How ?? Why ?? Where ??
Sod that, if you close a road with traffic cones a wee motorbike can still get through. Really hoping there are no cameras or I am in deep trouble...
had a lovely surprise down the bottom of the grassmarket where they have removed the road and marked it with a single cone in the middle, on the pavement.
great fun on a wind assisted road bike..

Was the wind assist from the fact that-like moi- shitting oneself turned to flatulence?
PEOPLE,PAVEMENT,ROAD whaaaaa?
Not commuted during rush hour for a bit, due to being a gentleman of leisure, but I did in through Death Junction today and survived.
I just may go completely radge one day trying to get home - down the bridges / leith walk. OUTAMAYWAYYOUSTUPIDSLOWUNOBSERVANTRUDETWUNTWHOJUSTCARVEDMEUP

🙂
Learn a word-a-day.
I've not noticed the standard of driving deteriorating recently. At least the suicidal Festival tourists have gone home...
Today I cycled down Russell Road and found you can still follow the pavement round on the bike to get all the way through.
Don't know what all the fuss is about.
Just done my commute home from Edinburgh into West Lothian.
No bad drivers or road works.
It was bit dark though!!

that'll be down to poor road positioning then!!!!!!!
You do know that you should be taking the primary position in the lane 🙂
Well Haymarket junction is globally ****ed as of yesterday until "Spring 2012". But almost impossible to avoid. Aaaaargh.
Really, these trams will have to be AMAZING for all this to be worthwhile.
So so so glad I dont't pay council tax in Edinburgh...
Haymarket is just poor poor planning, combined with very few cross routes because of the railway line and the canal, and a general disdain for the public that the Edinburgh Council seem to have.
You see the path from the cycle route down onto russell road - can you still ride down that? If not what would people recommend as the quietest way to get from there to tollcross primary?
I _think_ you can get under the railway bridge on Russell Road by bike or foot; no idea about access to the Roseburn cycle path from Russell Road or Haymarket Yards.
^ you have to leave the cyclepath at Wester Coates, cross the Glasgow Road & turn left at the Roseburn lights.
Swung by tonight - you can get under the railway bridge at Russell Road (from Roseburn to Gorgie).
No access from Russell Road to the Cycle route - the bank is all dug away and the workies have a sort of ladder/ staircase thing to get up and down.
Quietest route is probably Tollcross - Fountainbridge - Telfer Subway - Russell Road.
But we're getting a £1billion tram service! Double the original quote! That isn't going as far as they said it would! That is causing havoc in traffic! That hasn't even moved yet! That I'll never use as it goes nowhere near my house! And only goes one way, then back again! It's a great idea! Politicians are geniuses! Much like when they built the Scottish Parilament! For about £600million more than quoted! Ares. Holes. Fact.
😐
