To eke a bit more range out of a family ebike, contemplating getting a larger battery.
Bike currently has a BT-E8010 external battery which is 500wh
I'm contemplating a BT-E8016, which is 630wh.
Anyone made this change?
Thanks in advance.
I looked at this a few years back on a 1st Gen Canyon Spectral:On, but didn't end up doing it. If I remember correctly the 630wh battery is longer so I would have needed to increase the length of the battery retainers/holders so it fell into the too hard box.....
I made it. I tried modifying the battery mount, following the instructions on emtb forums, but kept getting connection errors.
Eventually I got the BM-E8016 mount as well. Range was much improved.

I did this about a year ago to get me riding with a bt-e8016 on a 2019/2020 Vitus E-Escarpe. Just attacked it with an angle grinder until it fit, with the intention of upgrading to a bm-e8016 down the line.
It's now a year down the line and still working great. (although the bike and batteries are to be retired in favour of an e-mythique in the near future).
It is a big chunk, and I am happier when it's got an extra strap holding it steady, but having worn out a few sets of e8010 contacts with 500whr e8010 batteries, that goes for them too. although you can just sand down the contacts and tin them with a thick layer of solder to get more life out of them if you do.
