Anyone got a definitive answer on how much Easyjet will let you take as a combined weight allowance for a bike bag and hold luggage?

Looking at their website, the T&C's have changed and it states that combined allowance for bike and bag should exceed no more than 32kg! Is this right? Anyone got any first hand experience or insight into exactly what you can take.

I fly tomorrow and my bike bag weighs in at 26kg and hold luggage at 16kg. I'm not gonna get stung for excess baggage am I??

Bicycles are exempt from excess baggage charges. Says so right at the bottom of the T&C's baggage section.

No, you'll be fine. Check the end of section 10 of their carrier conditions. You've paid for 20kg in the hold so that's the case covered. The bike is covered by the money you paid for the sports equipment. At the start of section ten, they talk about weight limits for sports equipemtn. It's only when you get to the end of that section do you see that no limit applies to bicycles provided they comply with the manual handling limit of 32kg (they might well ask if it's only the bike in there though, which of course you have).

Passengers travelling with bicycles are recommended to check-in 2 hours prior to departure. Bicycles are subject to the sports equipment fee and exempt from any excess baggage charges relating to the weight of the bicycle.

Same as it's always been as set out in the carriers regulations.

I flew a couple of weeks ago to Geneva from Gatwick with Easyjet. Got into a row with the woman at check in who thought it was 32 combined. She then got a supervisor who said there was no limit on a bike. I thought it was 50kg combined, but they gave me the impression it was 20kg for my bag (was 18.7 or summit) and anything for the bike, as long as there's nothing else in there. No extra charges, but I'm still a bit unclear what it should be. Pretty sure the website suggests 50kg combined.

edit: there you go ^^^^, was probably 50kg when I booked or something.

Cheers fella's, got in a bit of panic reading the baggage page where it says that paying the extra for the bike increases your total allowance to 32kg, including extra item.

http://www.easyjet.com/en/planning/baggage.html

I think I'll be printing the t&c's and taking them with me, just in case like!!

I went over the top, printed, highlighted and laminated the conditions and put them in the bike bag. I've was all revved up for the "discussion" and was almost disappointed that they didn't bad an eyelid! My bag was 18kg and the bike was 31.4kg with the extra "padding"

Throwing the debate wide open again (or am I just panicking unnecesarily) but can anyone point out the section where you allegedly have unlimite weigth for the bike and 32 kgs total?

(except from section 10)

Each passenger is allowed a maximum hold baggage weight of 50 Kgs including any sports equipment, subject to available space. The maximum weight for any single piece of baggage is 32 kgs.
An additional non-refundable fee is charged per item per flight for the carriage of the sporting equipment as set out in the table below:

....

Payment of the additional fee increases your checked-in hold baggage allowance (including additional item) to a maximum weight of 32kgs.
Where your total checked-in hold baggage weighs more than 32Kgs, normal excess baggage charges as set out above shall apply in addition to the above fee.

Seems pretty clear-cut.

I flew out with friends in July.
I am not someone who takes things lying down but there was NO argument on this one. The suitcase was 20k and the bike was 32kg. They are right, there is no official bike limit, but Easy Jet will refuse anything over 32kg due to H&S for the baggage handlers.
So much so that we were ripping bits of cardboard off the bike box to get it down to 32KG.
To be on the safe side, I would limit yourself to 20kg for the suitcase and 32KG for the bike.
Hope that helps.

You didn't have to pay excess baggage on anything over 32kg?

50 kg in total no one bag heavier than 32 kg is how I interpreted it

Jon T - look at e bottom of that- it makes it clear that bikes are exempt from excess baggage charges.

This is the bit you are looking for...

(1) Carriage of bicycles:
The bicycle must be packaged in a bicycle box or bag
Only one bicycle per bicycle box or bag will be permitted
No other items can be carried in the bicycle box (i.e. clothing)
The handlebars must be flush with the frame
The pedals must be flush against the frame or removed
Passengers travelling with bicycles are recommended to check-in 2 hours prior to departure. Bicycles are subject to the sports equipment fee and exempt from any excess baggage charges relating to the weight of the bicycle.

From http://www.easyjet.com/EN/Book/regulations.html right at the end of section 10.

The bike is limited to 32kg max due to handling limits for the baggage handlers. There is sometimes discussion as there are statements around each passenger only having 50kg max so to be on the super safe side aim for that as your total. But 20kg for your suitcase and up to 32kg for the bike is correct.

32kg is the limit that the baggage handlers will deal with, so that effectively becomes the limit of any bag

so you could have a bike @ 32 & a bag @ 20
but you'd get stung for 4kg extra if the bike was 28 & the bag 24

If you have paid for a bike you are allowed up to 50Kg. This is the total allowable load for an individual but with no single item weighing more than 32Kg's.

The rules aren't all in the same place BTW. Look through carrier T&C's as well as the normal T&C's

The extra (bike) payment seems to allow up to 32Kg but in fact this is a bit misleading.
