[Closed] e13 DRS fitting problems with RF Atlas Cranks

Ok guys, the e13 email address seems to be up the swanny at the mo so I though I'd put this to the STW hive to try and solve...

The DRS has fitted to the frame (2010 Mount Vision) fine but, when I refit the cranks (2007 RaceFace Atlas) and tighten them down, the granny ring bolts rub on the back plate to the point that the cranks won’t turn. All the spacers are installed on the cranks/BB as instructed.
The only way I can get the cranks to fit and spin is to fit the Back plate with the second drive side BB spacer outboard, between the back plate and the BB cup. The problem then is a lack of clearance between the back plate and the rear tyre.

I’m guessing it’s a compatibility problem between my cranks and the DRS but I can’t find any reports of such problems on the internet so I was just wondering if I’m just doing something stupid?

Anyone got any advice??

Might need to grind the bolts down, sounds extreme but its what e13 will prob advise

edit: or the clearance may be enough even though it does'nt look like it, mine has very little clearance from the tyre

I did think about grinding the bolts down but, to be honest, if it wasn't them rubbing on the plate the chain would rub when it's running on the granny ring.

Not very helpful, but worst case scenario I might be interested in buying it from you, (sans bashguard) if it's ISCG-05.

I've just had same issue with Blackspire stinger and RF cranks... fitted it behind the BB spacer as you've suggested and had to set the angle of the stinger roller arm low ish to avoid fowling on the rear tyre of my Bullit..... still seems tight enough to work though.

Seanodave - there's about 2mm clearance from the outer tyre knobs when it's set in board. It would probably be ok but if hit, it could swing round and foul the underside of the downtube.

Stooo - interesting you've had a similar problem. I can't run the drs that low as the front of the plate would foul the downtube!

I may be being picky but I'm trying to sort a bike for the mega so want everything 100%

Anyone else on the day shift got any thoughts?

Looks like I may be swapping cranks around!

Seanodav - Cheers for the Pics. You're right, there isn't much clearance there! I guess you're ok as long as the wheel stays true.

That might be my only option unless I buy some new cranks....

New cranks may not work, the cranks on mine are shimano and i had to run mine close to the wheel still. I tried lots of variations of spacing.
The set up above has not caused any trouble for me in over a year, i did bend the back plate slightly once on a rock and it just buzzed the tyre but didnt move around the bb.
Hope this helps!

Had same problems recently but with Blackspire Stinger.
Had to add extra chainline spacer making 3 on drive side.
