Do any of the cheaper devices give an OS grid reference?
If not what is the cheapest way of getting a long./lat. reference?
I am not bothered about full mapping or a gazillion waypoints, I just want to know where I am!
A lot of phones would do that to a reasonable degree of accuracy wouldn't they? A Motorola Defy would be perfect for that.
I use a Satmap for riding and it's superb. More than you're looking for though.
You'll get an app for any Android phone with gps that will do that. Search gridref in the market.
the basic etrex will do that
My phone cost £10 which is enough!
I don't mind buying a gps if it will do what I want
Any of the Garmin eTrex range will give an OS grid reference (or longitude/latitude).
Cheapest one new is the eTrex H, about £60. Though I think its worth paying a bit more for something like the eTrex 10 or the Foretrex 301, both about £100.
