Bearings are shot in my rear hub. Read somewhere a special tool is required? Has anyone done this? Never pulled a hub to bits before but i'll happily give it a go if there is a guide or something out there.. cheers

The central bearing needs a special tool, but it's also very well protected so doesn't often need changed. The other ones just need bearing change tools #1 (big ammer) and #2 (24mm-ish sockets)

The manual is here:

http://www.dtswiss.com/Resources/Support/HUBS/DT-Swiss-Hubs-240s-Technical-Manual

It gives the bearing sizes for the various hubs

If it is a rear 240 you absolutely will NOT be able to remove the drive side bearing with an 'ammer and some sockets. Even with the correct tools I managed to snap a vice into more pieces than it is designed to be. It was a good vice too, a Record. I miss it ๐Ÿ™

You need tool No 5 on page 5 here.> http://www.dtswiss.com/Resources/Support/HUBS/DT-Swiss-Hubs-240s-Technical-Manual

Available on eBay for considerably cheaper prices than from DT. One of mine was from Oz! The other was a home made but I believe to be workable gift.

I'm near Swansea/ Carmarthen if you'd like a loan.

FWIW, if you are getting reasonable life from your bearings you might well consider getting the LBS to do the job. It took two of us (hefty blokes) to undo the ratchet ring last time around. Epic stuff.

Ambrose- that's exactly what I said ๐Ÿ˜•

The point is that you're not likely to need to change the central bearing, the others have much shorter lifespan.
