Had a X-Fusion Manic on a Speccy and it was awful. Got a Syncos on my Scott and that’s great but both that and the reverb are damned expensive.
Anyone got any experience of cheaper alternatives ? Want a 30.9 for a Santa Cruz Chameleon hard tail.

Brand-X seems to be the default answer. Kinda the Deore of seatposts - not flash but cheap and functional.

My Shimano one has been faultless but no idea on cost. Came on the bike.

Brand X 170s on 3 of our Enduros, replaced the Command posts to give the extra drop. Just ordered a fourth for the Stumpy using code on CRC MEGA19 for £15 off. Running them with Command post levers.

Cheers guys. I’ll check out the Brand x and Shimano, but as you say Klunky, probably dear.
How much you looking at groundskeeperwilly ? That 170 might be a bit long for me. I need to get the tape measure out again. What length is the post ?

hard to look past Brand X - works as well as any fancy ones, but more user serviceable, and very reliable.

I've only replaced mine as I wanted MOAR dropper (210 one-up, hope its OK).

The BSN family bike shed as 2x170mm brand x equipped bikes, and one 150mm brand x - they all refuse to die (and, after no servicing at all on the 150mm for 2 years, but it still working fine, I decided to take it apart for a good look recently - grease was as good as new on the stantion and keys. how they heck is that possible?)

I got a CB Highline from CRC for not much more than the equivalent drop brand X

I picked up a brand x at trade. Yesyes LOADS OF play from all angles and rotation however mated with a loam lever it is really unbeatable for the dollar.

One up for me, very compact so you can get more dropper in and can adjust the amount of drop so maximise your droppage.

I have a synchros on my spark and I word say the post is made in the ssame factory as my brand x's. Same cable actuation. Same feel. Totally different lever mind.

I've had a Giant Contact Switch on my HT for a couple of years. Been faultless. Was about 150 quid.

Also had a genuine Gravity Dropper for about 10 years. Still faultless.

Just bought a brand x stealth dropper from start fitness, £90 delivered. I don't see how you can go wrong with that especially considering the read world experience and feedback on here

Having had all sorts of expensive posts (Thomson, Reverb, C Bros etc) I’m now firmly a Brand X convert.

Maybe not quite as nice but unbeatable for the price.

Is this accepted with droppers? A recent convert, got a Reverb on a new bike that now has lateral play and a bit of squish. Put a Brand-X on the other bike, which now has loads of play. Enough that you feel it moving when climbing seated.

Yeah right, if I shoot over an undulation/bump at speed with b x post extended. The post jumps up and down !

Not acceptable imo albeit the price reflects this imo.

The fact that others in their experience find them less hassle to service is a decent indicator.

One Up user here.

Been great for past 18months - just needed an air top up.

Has the smallest insertion length of most droppers which allowed me to fit a 150 where as all other makes I could only do 125.

Pretty solid with no play.
