[#9786821]

I've dealt with stuck seatposts before but this is a first for me. Trying to help with a Giant Contact switch post stuck in an Aluminium trance frame.

I've suggested and tried the usual suspects. WD40, penetrating oil, gently heating the seattube. I've tried a big lever in the seat clamp but all that is happening is the the keyway is giving way between the top and bottom sections of the seatpost.

Next I would normally put the seatpost in a vice and turn the frame but that is just going to destroy the internals of the post completely (but the post is expendible). Any ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks but £100 odd is worth exhausting DIY options first!

ACF50 - ideally down the seattube and perhaps some hot/cold to see if the thermal expansion helps with the penetration of the fluid.

Alumnium oxide corrosion so you'll need a strong alkali to dissolve it e.g. caustic soda, but it'll eat your frame inside-out if left too long - all Coke (citric acid) will do is make it sticky.

Got the same problem but with a steel frame 🙂

Usually approach of brute force will break the post. I've tried a strap wrench around the lower post with no luck.

Been applying plusgas to the seat post for the since the weekend, I've just flipped the frame over and squirted some in through a bottle boss to try and soak it from the bottom.

It's the new bikes fault, before that turned up I used to regularly swap the post between two bikes, they have both been ignored since December!
