We will be in touch
I've just put a new drivetrain on one of my bikes. New 10spd XT cassette, SRAM chain, X9 10spd mech, E13 ring. BB and hub have had a strip and service as has the LG1 chain device. Nothing seems to be rubbing, and all the individual components move smoothly.
But back pedalling especially in the lower gears seems really draggy/lumpy (can feel the chain clicking onto each tooth of the cassette and jockey wheels). If I push the mech forward a little everything seems to run a lot more freely. The mech tension does seem stupidly high (it's a short cage mech, chain is fairly tight in bottom gear, but I could maybe get 1 more link out if I pushed it).
Thoughts? Will it just wear in?
I find new chains dreadfully sticky.
Sheldon says not to clean them but I always degrease and use a lighter lube on a new chain.
Fiddle with the B-screw on the rear mech. I've managed to adjust the tension and get rid of that notchy sound in the lowest 1-2 gears on both the mtb and road. I put up with it for ages and it only took a few seconds!
How happy is your freehub; the back pedalling may be connected with this instead?
Only time I've had something like this it was freehub drag. Easton hub, and the cassette was overtightened, not something that has ever been an issue with Hope or Shimano hubs.
Took bloody ages to find, as it felt fine when spun by hand.
