Hi All. If this belongs in the classifieds please let me know and I'll take my slapped wrist and put a post up there.

I'm looking to make a few clocks out of chainsets / cranksets as gifts - do youย  have any decent looking but broken ones aroundย  as donor units?

My ideal would be XTR, Dura Ace, Ultegra or vintage cranksets, ideally with something like a snapped axle etc as that will be removed and then a clock mechanism "inserted" with probably a pendulum consisting of a chain and jockey wheel / small cog.

Given what it's for I'm looking for free or minimal cost (will pay postage of course).

This is a simple quick one I put together from an old worn out MTB chainring previously without much though, but I quite like it so would like to make something more elaborate / with more attention to detail

Thanks !

gi o'er, that chain ring is almost new!
Might have some properly worn out M950 rings.
Definietly got a vintage FC-MC16 Alivio crank set (no rings) that's fine but no use as you can't get replacement rings. It's not fancy though.
I'll have a rumage tomorrow and update.

I've got this on an old 1980s Viscount that failed to get any interest on ebay over the summer. If you're interested I can try to get it off

I think I already donated our spares to someone on here for an art project but I'll take a look over the weekend.

Can't help with cranks, but if you have any smart ideas for my pile of broken rims in the garage, they're all yours.

@Mowgli, I always thought a pile of broken rims could make an interesting garden planter. Pile them ontop of each other and pin through or secure them with hidden wire or something. Fit some of that planter liner fabric on the inside, fill with soil and plant the plants? Wouldn't suit my wife's idea of a pretty garden ornament (and she's probably right) so I've never actually bothered to try it but it's an idea!

Rims cut in half or quarters to make shelf supports?
