After 11 months off the bike and many visits to Dr/hospitals i've been told the pain in my right testicle/groin isn't cancer/s but probably something called Gilmore's groin. Consultant yesterday says next (final) step is pain management - blocking the nerves or something? I left the hospital relieved to know it's actually something but when i looked it up at home, most folk tend to get an op to fix this. Doc said i'd not be getting an op*. Is this usual? I've been looking for exercises to help and most seem to be post-op. Is it safe to do these and is there any resources i can look up to see what i should and shouldn't be doing? I really want to get out on the bike again ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

* Main reason stated is that the right side of my scrotum has already had 2 ops (one for a hernia when i was a toddler and another for cyst about 15 years ago (yeah, frankensack ๐Ÿ˜€ ). Doc reckons some of the discomfort is due to scar tissue and they wouldn't operate to remove scar tissue as it would only cause more.

Any help much appreciated (and no - no pics ๐Ÿ˜› )

Hello, I'm neither doctor nor physio type but did/still do have groin issues. Went to a specialist in Wimbledon that was not cheap but really good. They didn't think mine was a Gilmores but couldn't confirm as I didn't want to pay for a scan.

Went away with lots of exercises to strengthen the muscles in the area and hamstrings etc, I'm guessing that sort of thing might benefit you to stabilise the area generally. My advice is get a second opinion if your not sure, I can dig out the details of the guys I saw if you like, they are proper specialists in groins?

Mines still very bloody irritating but manageable provided I don't do big changes in direction, so that was the end of football for me....

I would also be interested in details for Wimbledon people.

Thanks for replying lbjones. I would appreciate the contact details of the guys you saw - although i'm hoping there's someone over here (N Ireland) who can help too. I fully intend on getting a second opinion as i'm not 100% convinced personally. I played /competed in football, American football and athletics years ago but apart from a gentle kick about with my kids, I only cycle these days and i can't find any examples of Gilmore's groin caused by cycling. Also I'm not getting any abdominal pains, just a bit of groin discomfort. The right testicle is what causes me the most discomfort (i'm left footed).

It's a bit odd that every doctor/consultant i've seen this past year has been female. When they ask me to describe the pain my scale goes from 'feels like i've just had a very hard kick in the testicles' to 'had a gentle flick in the testicles about 30 minutes ago but the pain is mostly gone'. I don't think they get it ๐Ÿ˜†

Here's the link

Think I saw this guy, he runs a specialist groin clinic with a physio too.

Looks like he's definitely had a good few shots to the groin so should be more fluent in the testicular pain scale!

Not cheap but really seem to know their onions.....

Currently trying to diagnose long term issues down there, my current thinking is snapping hip syndrome and following a course of exercise to stretch and strengthen. Scans have ruled out scary stuff, though may have a further scan for hernia but I don't think it's that.
