I ride a Demo 8 with 2010 Boxxers and use one of the softer springs. I find this perfect for DH, fairly big jumps and drops.
My other bike is a Dialled Alpine. I am about to change from a Fox talas r to a lyrik coil and am unsure what spring to install.
My old DH hardtail (.243 racing) had Domain u-turn forks with an x-firm spring which I could still occasionally bottom out quite harshly.
I weigh just under fifteen stone in full kit and I presume I ride more over the front of the hardtail? That being the case it makes sense to be running a firmer spring.
So... I would particularly like to hear peoples weight's and what fork spring they run, especially if you have lyriks.
wow - i run a softer preload and damping on my hardtail (ti456 on 140mm FLOAT 15mm BT) as it just seems betterer ๐
I'm running lyriks on my dh hardtail. I weigh 11 stone riding, but I'm rocking the standard spring @ 145mm travel. Spring rate is about right, so I reckon you'll need at least a firm - possibly x firm if thats what your domains had.
Try the stock spring for your weight first, THEN decide?
I was pretty confident I would be running an x-firm spring as per Domain's, but on reading hora's pike spring rate conundrum it's got me thinking.
Obviously the answer is to try them and see, but I don't want to pay out for a spring I don't need.
i run my forks softer on my alpine than i did on the full sus to counter for the slacker head angle
my 2-steps have more air in them thans seems appropriate, but as in the OP i ride with more weight over the front on my Alpine. the stichion (sp) that is commented on in garage push-the-fork-down test isn't noticeable when out riding. also means the fork doesn't bob when locked down; i hardly ever touch the lock-out.
my mate has coil Lyriks on his 456 and now thinks the spring is too soft, whereas on his burly FS he said it was perfikt.
