"Chains and belts are for losers", or this is how I translated my Japanese acquaintance's remarks on his steed in Tokyo this evening. Maybe shaft transmissions aren't new to STW but it's the first I've seen.

Used to see the exact same drivetrain on a guys commuter bike some years back.

The bike rental scheme in Reading uses shaft drive bikes like this...

Also, there's gotta be a sneaky ninja in the shadows holding up the bike in that top pic...

Edit : *TIC I doubt anyone lifting that would get far on foot in Tokyo.

Isn't it on everybody's? 🙂

To be fair, it has changed (and is still changing) massively from the ugly concrete dump image it sometimes has (and I had until I worked there). 100's of millions of £s are being invested in building development, and it is actually the most affluent city outside of London according to a recent study.
