I had a recent problem with not being able to get hope olives...
Needed 5mm olives, which were not available anywhere local to me at the time. However B&Q did 8mm olives...
I trimmed them down with a dremel, and they've been doing the job perfectly!
You shouldn't have any problem using a split olive I dont think.
