I've seen some on friends' bikes that look thin and some look fatter. Am I seeing things?

Maybe some have the previous 32mm Pikes. The newer version are all 35mm

Black stanchions? 35mm
Silverish ones? 32mm
thin looking black ones? Probably a Rev

There was a few years that Pikes weren't made. They came back in the last year or two and that's when they got phat black stantions.

Official 2010 end of 32mm.
2013 for 35. (models years are all bonkers anyway so the follow year could be on sale July the year before or vice versa.) 😉
