had enough of strava, issues with log in. issues with just not working right.
i like to keep a log of my miles, nothing more. maps of where i have been would be good too.
any decent alternative anyone way rec ?
Do you use a GPS / smart watch etc?
I use a Garmin and that logs my rides (as one example). I'm sure the others probably do too.
My dad puts his in a diary (recorded by GPS unit).
Garmin connect
Fetcheveryone. Sorted

yes a garmin venu thing
Does that not upload to Garmin Connect? Your activity maps and all the data should be there.
If you already use a Garmin then just use Connect.
RidewithGPS works for me, been using it (free version) since 2019. I don't use it for route planning. No nagging Strava bollocks, just a record of distance and elevation. Easy to export gpx to e.g. OS maps. I had a slight issue with dropping data last year that turned out to be an Android battery optimization issue related to a system update, easily resolved.
As you use a Garmin, just use Garmin Connect, it does everything Strava does (other than the social side and heat map) for free (aside from buying a Garmin).
If you are loading into Strava currently (or trying to) it must already be loading into Garmin Connect
Garmin Connect already offers more data than Strava but just feels more clunky.
Garmin are also clearly trying to make it more like Strava ie social but I don’t think people will be prepared to pay
Trouble is, who's going to understand you and move out of your way when you come barrelling through a trail hell for leather shouting GARMIN CONNECT!
"garmin connect" is what you yell to get the ****ing thing to talk to your phone after yet another failure surely?

Can't say I've experienced that.
Have two Garmin watches that will connect at the same time. Take one off and put the other one on, the data automatically syncs across to the other watch
Garmin connect is seamless for me
The sync is actually seemless but i regularly have to reconnect the watch to the phone for some reason. As if its a new device.
Mine did that for a bit, uninstalling and re-installing Connect seemed to solve it.
As recommended by others, Garmin connect on your phone does all you want already, assuming you're not still plugging things into a laptop to upload.
I'd like to ditch strava but the club uses it for organizing rides, which is a pain as
a) you have to create a ride, then get someone with premium to upload the route. Why is uploading a route .gpx considered a "premium" feature, it just feels like spite to stop you using a free route creator or one you've paid for elsewhere rather than STRAVA.
b) Although it works for arranging one-off rides (i.e. anything other than 50-70miles with a cafe stop on a Sunday morning at 9am), I think it's actually driven down the potential numbers on the regular rides. I'd much rather go back to just turning up and one of the experienced riders would suggests a cafe. Now;
- leaders set a limit on numbers (usually 8), which is fine, but previously if 9 had shown up we'd just split into 4 & 5, now the 9th (and anyone else) just doesn't sign up.
- people pay way too much attention to the forecast, "ohhh a 73% chance of a shower, I'll not sign up and commit in advance", that's a 73% chance of a single spot of rain, anywhere within whatever grid square resolution the forecaster is using. It probably won't rain! just wake up on Sunday and look out the window.
RideWithGPS is good for simple route logging and creation. Great for reviewing where you've been and building local loop knowledge and I like how it's low priority on the social media aspects.
Komoot can be good too, I just like the mapping functions and detail in RWGPS.
I don't use Garmin connect, just an older 520 unit that's accessed via PC, drag and drop.
started the garmin connect this this week. so far so good. have to be honest it is quite a lot better than strava. fave thing so far is when it tells me i need to rest...... i like that.

It used to regularly happen to me when I used Garmin watches. It would also often take such a long time to connect that my rides would have the first few miles missing, and I'd spend those miles pedalling along slowly and fiddling with my watch.
Not had a problem since I moved from Garmin products.

What garmin requires a connection to app to log stuff? None of my 20 devices do!!!!

Err, yeah - this.
Hit record activity and your phone can be on another planet, the watch/computer will record the activity as long as it has a gps connection, doesn't need the app.
Not entirely sure whether you need to be near your phone or simply have a WiFi connection to upload (probably the latter), but regardless, the phone/app doesn't affect the ability to log stuff

Annoyingly, Live track won't work without a connection to the phone at the point you start recording a ride, though that in itself doesn't stop the ride being recorded. So sometimes I have to faff around to ensure Live track has started working before I actually start riding "properly"...

That's the same with any app/device unless you have LTE or satellite tracking/connectivity on your device.
That is odd as I always forget to start livetrack until I'm about 20 minutes into a ride. I just go to connect on my phone and tell it I want to livetrack and it starts doing it's thing.
Saying that, those who want to track don't so entirely possible they've just told me they saw me when they checked and they hadn't actually done a check.
Coros Dura.
Way better than my Garmin Edge.
Lightening fast start and connection. I also share to Strava but that only takes a button click.
It just sits on the bike as it goes months between charges.

Possibly (I don't own non-Garmin devices to compare) but it's poorly implemented by Garmin as there's nothing to stop them automatically starting Live track when connection is eventually established.
.
I have a Garmin watch and head unit
I live track via the strava app on my phone. My wife thinks it’s more reliable than the Garmin tracking. It’s a free strava feature
Long time Komoot user. It does everything i want of a GPS thing. I did buy the world map years ago. I understand things are a bit different now it's been take over by the Spoons people.
