Got a Hilo and the remote has never been easy to use IMO, plus I fancied ditching the extra stuff and going back to basics. So far, I'm not missing it and treating my post more like a standard post - dropping it for descents and keeping it up for everything else. It feels like the best of both worlds and has made the bike lighter and neater looking.

Upgrade to a 10 speed drivetrain. Then set your derailleur limit screws so that you can only use 7 of the gears. Same thing! Why?
I get a lot from my post but really want a remote for it. I find myself still having the post in the wrong spot through not wanting to take my hand off the bars at some points.
Most modern setups can be cleaned up by matchmaker systems
