Morning all, has anyone tried to dismantle the shock extender from a 2012 Lapierre Spicy 916 and if so, how...?
They're not designed to be rebuilt. The end caps/covers come off but the bearings are blind and my pullers would'nt work.I've just got replacement ones when the bearings in them died.
Aw, what an anticlimax...
Thanks for saving me from trying to refurb it Rorschach. 😉
It may well be possible....it was just cheaper (workshop time) for the customer to replace it.
It does come apart!
Two 6900 bearings inside it.
The benefit of having a quiet day in the workshop with time to kill... 😉
Not to mention not wanting to pay £60 for a new one...
They do indeed come apart.
Use a pick (or small sharp screwdriver) to pull off the side covers
Use a vice, with some suitable sized sockets / bit of bar to carefully press out the centre tube, which will also push out on side bearing. Be careful, keep checking progress and for any binding etc. If you warm the shuttle in hot water (or careful with a hot air gun) they pop out a lot easier.
Replace bearings and re-press back together. Again, be careful with alignment, and go gently, pressing where possible on the outside of the bearing races and not via the centre to avoid pitting the races etc
